Basil tea.
A friend gave me a lot of basil from her garden today. As I formulated my plan on what to do with it all, I made a cup of basil tea with a little honey.
Working on blending with oil now to make ice cubes for later cooking needs.
I don’t like pesto or I’d be making a lot of it.
Also planning on grabbing lemons tomorrow to make basil lemonade which is one of my favs. #basilpower #basil leaves #fresh basil #lemon basil #Lemon8
When I first received a bounty of fresh basil from a friend’s garden, I was inspired to experiment beyond the usual pesto. Making basil tea with a dash of honey quickly became my go-to, especially because it’s both calming and packed with antioxidants. The herbal aroma and mild sweetness make it a delightful drink to unwind with after a long day. One creative tip I’ve found useful is blending fresh basil leaves with olive oil, then freezing the mixture in ice cube trays. These basil oil cubes are fantastic for adding instant flavor to soups, sauces, or sautés without needing to chop fresh leaves every time. It’s a simple way to preserve the basil’s freshness and ensures I always have it on hand for cooking. Another personal favorite is basil lemonade. By combining freshly squeezed lemon juice with basil leaves and a little sweetener, you get a refreshing summer beverage that balances tangy and herbal notes perfectly. Using lemon basil, if available, adds a subtle citrus twist that complements the drink beautifully. If you’re like me and not a fan of pesto, these alternatives let you enjoy basil’s vibrant flavor in different forms that are easy and fun to make at home. Plus, using fresh basil in drinks offers a cool change and many health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties and digestive aid. Experimenting with these recipes is a great way to make the most of any basil harvest and add a fresh touch to your kitchen routine.
