The trick for the 'butterfly' effect is to occasionally loop your finger through the wrapping hair and pull it slightly to create a small, uneven loop or bubble. Don't wrap too tightly! This is what gives it that beautiful, voluminous, and free-spirited boho butterfly locs look. I repeated this process until I reached my desired length, securing the ends by wrapping tightly and sometimes burning the very tip (carefully!) or using a tiny bit of nail glue for extra security. It took me a good portion of a weekend, but the results were so worth it. The best part about these bohemian butterfly locs is their versatility. I can easily style them up in a messy bun, a half-up-half-down, or just let them flow freely. For maintenance, I usually just spray them with a light leave-in conditioner mixed with water every few days to keep them moisturized. I sleep with a satin bonnet to prevent frizz and help them last longer. I've found that they actually look better as they age slightly, getting even more lived-in and natural. They're also surprisingly lightweight, which is a huge plus for a protective style.
