Colorado has my heart 🫶
When I first thought about going to Colorado, I wasn't entirely sure if it would solve all my problems, but I knew I had to find out. And let me tell you, my recent trip to Silverton, Colorado, was absolutely breathtaking and truly helped me reconnect with what matters. This charming historic mining town, nestled high in the San Juan Mountains, is a gem for anyone craving adventure, stunning scenery, and a bit of peace away from the daily grind. So, if you're wondering about the best things to do in Silverton, I'm excited to share my personal favorites! One of the absolute must-dos is exploring the incredible hiking trails. The San Juans offer something for everyone, from leisurely strolls to challenging alpine treks. I particularly loved the paths that lead to old mining ruins – it's like stepping back in time while surrounded by panoramic views. Don't forget your camera because every turn offers a postcard-perfect shot! For a truly iconic experience, consider a section of the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway. Even if you're not an extreme off-roader, parts of it are accessible and offer unparalleled vistas of the high country. Another highlight was riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. There's something magical about traveling through the wilderness on a historic steam train. The views of the Animas River Canyon are simply spectacular, and it’s a relaxing way to soak in the incredible landscape without having to navigate tricky mountain roads yourself. It’s a full-day adventure, but totally worth every minute. Beyond the majestic outdoors, Silverton's historic downtown is a delight. Walking along Blair Street, with its preserved Victorian buildings, feels like a journey into the Old West. I spent an afternoon popping into the unique local shops, grabbing a coffee, and just soaking in the atmosphere. There are some fantastic local eateries too, perfect for refueling after a day of exploration. Don't miss trying some local Colorado fare! For those seeking a bit more adrenaline, venturing out on a Jeep or ATV tour is a fantastic way to access some of the more remote and incredibly scenic areas. Many local outfitters offer guided tours, which is great if you're not familiar with the terrain. You'll get to see pristine alpine lakes, vibrant wildflowers, and perhaps even some wildlife. It’s an exhilarating way to really 'find out' the rugged beauty of the San Juan wilderness. Silverton truly is a place where you can escape, explore, and maybe even find some clarity. It definitely captured my heart, and I’m already dreaming of my next visit to this unforgettable Colorado mountain town. Whether you're hiking, riding the train, or just enjoying the historic charm, you'll find plenty of things to do that will make your Silverton vacation truly special.
