Best Animated Series for Adults
1. BOJACK HORSEMAN, 2020
⭐️Rate: 10/10
🎬Review: Seriously though. Best show currently on television. At first, I thought ianother cartoon for adults only with poor drawings. But it's not. It's different. For one, theare funnier and the sads are sadder. The first season starts out more of a plain funny show, bbeware this show will break your heart if you stick with it. It is also a really clever show - Ithat I'm not smart enough to catch all the references but sometimes I get thhe jokes and that feels good. Also, this show may be one of the depictions of depression on TV and moviees ever
2. DISENCHANTMENT, 2023

🎬Review: Season 1 of either Futurama or The Simpsons were never considered their best work. Disenchantment does not meet this high mark just yet. Jokes are funny butthey are often rather safe and lacks some cleverness. The main characters are well acted by theyoung talent but Princess Bean, Luci, and Elfo come off as very one note. The Planet Exprescrew and The
Simpson family are well defined characters but these shows had time. While I enjoy the show as a huge fan of Matt Groening, Disenchantment needs time and somethoughtful writing that made Futurama a fan favorite.
3. BIG MOUTH, 2023

🎬Review: The first five minutes made me open my eyes in disbelief. I'm so hhappy I finally found a show that was brutally honest and funny to the bone(r). The first episode doesn't give up. There is just one ridiculously true situation of satire after an another. I really enjoy this show for its "in your face" honesty and brilliant conception. Finally, we have a show without barriersat is true to the core of one's inner fluidity.
4. ADVENTURE TIME, 2014

🎬Review: For a kids show, Adventure Time has surprising mature aand deep themes, making it a joy to watch for all ages. The characters are all so diverse and unique and the vvoice acting is perfect. For the most part they are light hearted and funny, but as the show gradually reves their backstories and flaws, it adds quite a bit of depth and even sadness at times. This allows them to feel real and relatable despite the supernatural setting. What I enjoy most about Adventure Time is that even though the episodes seem random and disconnecteed, they all help build up a rich and diverse world and reveal many subtle ideas and story arcs that are massively paid of in the future. It is a show that leaves me smiling every time I watch it, with a heaartwarming display of friendship, morality and forgivenss. In addition, it is alsohilarious and full of clever, memerable one liners. For me, the only thing holding this show back from being a maserpiece is that it has a few boring and even uncomfortable episodes that I don't feel like are reprentative of how good the show normally is. Despite this, I love this show and quite simply, its awesome
5. THE LOUD HOUSE, 2017

🎬Review: After giving us terrible shows after the other, this was a show they realleded! I have my own thought that any character can be good. Where I am going when I ssaid that is that just because a character is stereotypical doesn't mean that they are a baad character. To me it determines on how said stereotyped is used and this show uses them well. I like how this shosatires a whole lot of different people from the dumb blond to the comedic girl to the emo girl aetc. Every character has their own trait that portrays them but this show knows how to go deepinto that trait. Almost every character is easily likable and I find the show as a whole reallly easy to enjoy. A great piece of work from Nickelodeon.

As someone who's always loved a good story, I've personally found myself drawn more and more to animated series for adults in recent years. Gone are the days when 'cartoons' were exclusively for kids. Today's american cartoons and animated tv shows for adults offer incredible depth, humor, and even profound emotional resonance that rivals live-action dramas. It's truly a golden age for adult animation, especially for those of us who grew up with 2010 cartoons and saw the genre start to evolve. Shows like Bojack Horseman and Big Mouth, which I reviewed in my main post, perfectly exemplify this shift. They tackle complex themes like depression, puberty, identity, and societal pressures with a unique blend of sharp wit and heartfelt honesty. I've often felt these shows articulate experiences in ways live-action sometimes struggles to, making them incredibly relatable. One of the biggest draws for me, and I know for many others, is finding best animated series with strong overarching plot like gravity falls amphibia adventure time samurai jack. While I adore episodic comedies, there's something incredibly satisfying about a show that builds a rich world and develops characters over multiple seasons. Adventure Time, which is another one of my top picks, is a prime example. What starts as a seemingly whimsical children's show gradually reveals a deeply complex mythology, intricate character backstories, and surprisingly mature themes about loss, destiny, and growth. Its ability to weave a compelling, long-form narrative with consistent world-building truly sets it apart, much like how fans appreciate the lore in shows such as Gravity Falls or the epic journey in Samurai Jack. These types of shows don't just offer laughs; they invite discussion and analysis, fitting perfectly for anyone interested in a tv tropes pantheon discussion of character archetypes and narrative structures. You find yourself pondering the deeper meanings behind seemingly simple scenes, much like I did with Bojack Horseman and its raw depiction of mental health. Looking ahead, it's exciting to think about new cartoon shows 2026 and cartoons 2025. The quality bar for american cartoons for adults has been set incredibly high, and I'm always on the lookout for the next series that will surprise and move me. The industry seems to be embracing diverse storytelling and animation styles, promising even more innovative and thought-provoking content. Whether it's the continued evolution of existing franchises like The Loud House or entirely new concepts, adult animation is a space where creativity truly thrives, offering something for every taste. So, if you're like me and appreciate animation that goes beyond the surface, diving into these recommended animated tv shows for adults is a fantastic place to start. You might just find your next obsession!

Adventure time will always be #1 for me 😍
