Favorite Things Gift Exchange

My college friends and I did a “favorite things” gift exchange last night. Everyone brought 3 identical “favorite things” within a price limit, and everyone left with three gifts!

To no one's surprise, I made mine slightly bookish, gifting three copies of my favorite book, a belt bag, and one of my favorite hair ties. (Shout out to used copies for staying within the price limit!)

Not pictured, but I came home with a new pair of slippers, a Starbucks ceramic travel mug, some shower steamers, under eye masks, gua sha combs, and a bag of Nerd gummy clusters. Other gifts included a beauty gift basket, earrings, bath bombs, coffee, and pistachio cream.

We laughed, we dressed up, we ate good food, and we hugged a lot. This is one of my favorite nights in December every year, and the first year in a long while everyone was able to be together with illnesses, kids, and holiday travel.

If you were participating in a favorite things exchange, what would you gift?

... Read moreThe 'favorite things' gift exchange is a delightful and engaging way to celebrate friendships, especially during the holiday season. This tradition not only allows you to showcase your favorite items but also fosters connection and shared joy among participants. Whether it's a favorite book, beauty products, or cozy essentials, the exchange promotes creativity while adhering to a budget. For those planning a similar gathering, consider setting a specific theme, such as 'bookish gifts' or 'self-care items,' to guide your choices and enhance the experience. This can spark fun conversations and encourage participants to think outside the box. Additionally, it's great to involve everyone in the planning process, allowing each person to contribute their favorite things, which can cater to their unique personalities and interests. Participating in such exchanges can also improve social interactions, as they create lasting memories. Gifts like homemade treats, hand-crafted items, or experiential gifts, such as spa vouchers or coffee dates, add a personal touch that makes each exchange special. Ultimately, the focus should be on appreciating each other and fostering community spirit. Keep the atmosphere light-hearted and joyful, ensuring that everyone enjoys both giving and receiving thoughtful gifts.
