Friendships often feel like they have no limits—you assume they will endure any challenge. But, sometimes, external pressures like political turmoil can create what I call an "orange haze," clouding our perception of who our friends really are. When the government or social climate becomes unstable, it can seep into personal relationships, causing misunderstandings or divisions where none existed before. I remember how our group chat buzzed with concerns not just about national events but also about our friendships unraveling. It was painful to realize that differences in perspectives could drive a wedge between people who once felt inseparable. In my experience, one of the most surprising aspects was missing the early signs of disconnect. We didn’t anticipate that our reactions to the administration’s failures and societal shifts could impact our cohesion so deeply. It took honest conversations and reflections to grasp that grief over friendship loss is just as valid as any romantic breakup or other type of loss. Talking openly about these feelings—whether through a podcast, a YouTube video, or heartfelt chats—helped me process the pain and find new ways to navigate changing dynamics. If you’re going through something similar, know that it’s okay to mourn these losses and that healing often comes through acknowledging the complexity of emotions involved. Ultimately, friendships may not always be forever, and that realization can be heartbreaking. But by sharing our stories, supporting each other, and staying open to growth, we can find resilience in grief and learn how to cherish the memories while moving forward.
