... Read moreHey everyone! Following my intro, I wanted to dive a little deeper into something really central to my identity: my kintypes. For those unfamiliar, a kintype is essentially a non-human identity that someone experiences. It’s not about physically being these things, but rather a deep, intrinsic feeling of connection or identification with a particular species, creature, or even a fictional character. It's a journey of self-discovery, often spiritual or psychological, that helps us understand ourselves better.
When I first started exploring my alterhuman identity, it was a process of introspection and recognizing feelings I'd had my whole life. My theriotypes, for example, are my animal kintypes. The Kaprosuchus and mosasaurus resonate deeply with a primal, powerful energy. I often feel a strong pull towards water and imagine the sensation of gliding through ancient seas. Then there's the maned wolf, which brings a different kind of wildness – a sense of being both solitary and connected to a pack, observing from a distance. These aren't just animals I admire; it's a profound sense of 'that is me' at a fundamental level.
Beyond the animal kingdom, my fictionkin identities are equally powerful. Identifying as a Thanator from Avatar, a mimic from Vita Carnis, or an Indoraptor from Jurassic Park speaks to my fascination with specific traits and roles these creatures play in their fictional worlds. The sheer power, the predatory instinct, or the unique adaptability of these characters often mirrors aspects of my own inner landscape or how I perceive myself in certain situations. It's about recognizing a familiar pattern in their existence.
Then there are my otherkin identities, which broaden the scope even further. Being a dragon, for instance, evokes a sense of ancient wisdom, strength, and a connection to magic. Fae kintypes bring a whimsical, ethereal quality, while divinekin points to a connection with something transcendent and powerful. Merfolk, with their bond to the ocean, ties back into my marine biology interests, and even robot kintypes can represent a sense of logic, structure, or a different way of experiencing the world. And the näcken, a water spirit from folklore, adds another layer of connection to the mystical and the natural elements.
Discovering these kintypes wasn't an overnight revelation. It involved a lot of research, reading other people's experiences, and truly listening to my own intuition and feelings. It's about recognizing patterns in dreams, strong instinctive reactions, or even just a deep, inexplicable pull towards certain archetypes or creatures. It’s not a choice, but rather an unveiling of who you inherently are.
This journey of understanding my kintypes is part of my larger alterhuman identity, an umbrella term that simply means identifying as something other than human. It's incredibly validating to find a community where these experiences are understood and accepted. It allows for a deeper connection to myself and the world around me. What about you? Have you explored any unique connections or identities?
