getting back on track after a holiday weekend 🇺🇸✨

it’s post memorial day weekend. i had PLANNED to still go to the gym and count calories over this long weekend. but if you saw how much CAKE and junk food i consumed the past 3 days, you’d probably be concerned. my food monster DEFINITELY took over 😮‍💨🫩

i went from being 118lbs pre weekend to 123.5lbs post weekend. that’s a HUGE jump. my stomach is bloated and bulging. it’s really disappointing and i feel really discouraged. but like every time this happens, it’s important to look at the reality of the situation and keep myself grounded. here’s what’s up:

🧊 most of the weight is just WATER rentention

i know i ate A LOT. but i still burned calories. realistically, i probably only gained a pound or two of actual fat. because of the influx of sugar and sodium that my body isn’t used to, it’s holding on to extra water! this can be fixed by hydrating extra over the next couple of days so the extra water is released.

🎈 i’m just bloated

my stomach was decently flat before this 😭 but this isn’t permanent! it’s temporary bloating from extra water and sodium. no biggie!

🍃 i deserve to not worry

i eat really well 90% of the time. i wanted to have a good weekend with friends and family and not have the stress of my usual strict diet. i deserve to let go every once in a while. make a lifestyle of it? no. but not care every so often? sure! it’s healthy for the mind and the metabolism 😌 we all need a re-feed occasionally.

⏪ this doesn’t set me back

it’s just a pause on my journey! i’ve already come so far. my current goal is to get to 115lbs. i can still get there! this doesn’t mean i ruined everything and have to give up. it just means i didn’t make any progress this week. i ate in a deficit the week before, so it just cancels out!

🖤 i’m a human being

this doesn’t make me a horrible person! i had a moment (well, 3 days worth of moments lol), and this moment doesn’t define me! this doesn’t make my body ugly at all. bloating is normal! scale fluctuations are normal! it’s IMPOSSIBLE for me to be perfect 100% of the time, and that’s okay! it’s just life. i had a fantastic weekend, i have nothing to feel guilty about!

all i can do is move forward ⏩ no need to over restrict or punish myself. i had a great time and felt amazing and free. life is too short to regret having a good time!

so what’s to do? get back on schedule! go to the gym like normal, and continue my deficit where i left off. that’s all there is to it!

... Read moreAfter a holiday weekend filled with indulgence, it's common to experience feelings of bloating and frustration over weight gain. It’s important to remember that fluctuations are part of the journey. Here are some effective strategies to get back on track: 1. **Hydrate Abundantly**: Increase your water intake to help flush out excess sodium and reduce bloating. Staying hydrated is key to feeling better and regulating bodily functions. 2. **Resume Your Routine**: As tempting as it may be to skip workouts, getting back into your exercise regimen is vital. Whether it's hitting the gym or participating in outdoor activities, consistency will aid in regaining your momentum. 3. **Focus on Nutrition**: While it’s okay to indulge, returning to a balanced diet is essential. Prioritize whole foods like fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains to help manage weight. Monitor your calorie intake without obsessing over it, ensuring you're still enjoying your meals. 4. **Mindset is Everything**: Maintain a positive outlook on your body and journey. Accept that temporary setbacks do not define your long-term goals. Emphasize self-love and body acceptance during this process. 5. **Plan Ahead**: To avoid overindulgence in future celebrations, create a plan for how to enjoy without derailing your progress. Consider preparing healthier alternatives or setting limits on the types and amounts of food you’ll consume. By incorporating these practices, you can ease back into your routine without the stress of guilt. Remember, balance and patience are key in any weight loss journey.
