My day in Newport Beach was absolutely perfect, but there's even more to explore beyond the highlights! If you're planning your own summer escape, here are some extra tips and spots I found useful to really maximize your time and budget. While the Balboa Fun Zone is a must, don't miss strolling further down the Balboa Peninsula. I loved renting a bike and cruising along the boardwalk. The beach itself is gorgeous, perfect for sunbathing or building sandcastles. For panoramic views, make sure to walk to the end of the pier – it's free and absolutely stunning, especially at sunset! The Ferris wheel also offers affordable rides, often under $10, which is a great value for the views. Yes, Balboa Beach Treats is fantastic for churros and ice cream, but if you're looking for more substantial bites, Newport Beach has so many options! I stumbled upon a great little seafood shack near the pier that had delicious fish tacos. For a quick and easy lunch, there are plenty of casual cafes. Don't forget to grab a yummy donut from one of the local bakeries mentioned on the signs around Balboa, they make for a sweet start to the day! When it comes to marine adventures, I can't stress enough how much I saved by checking Groupon in advance. I managed to score a fantastic deal, getting my ticket for the 'Nautilus' whale watching tour for just $10! We saw so many playful dolphins and even a grey whale.
