This isn’t my usual content featuring Finn.

This year has been one of the hardest of my life. In January, I lost my first cat, Tippet, and two days ago, I lost my golden retriever, Piper.

I wanted to share a little piece of her with the world because she was so incredibly special. She wasn’t just a dog, she was a part of me.

This is for her. 💛

Piper, my heart hurts so much, and words can’t even begin to describe the loss I feel. You were the absolute best dog, and we shared a bond like no other. You were my soul dog, my yellow, my comfort.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to spend a lifetime without you by my side. I find comfort in all the adventures we shared, the memories we made, and knowing that you’re no longer in pain, but that doesn’t make this hurt any less. I truly thought I had more time with you. But I know that even an eternity together wouldn’t have been enough.

Say hi to Tippet for me up there.

I love you, Bean. Until we meet again. 💛

For those of you who never got the chance to meet my sweet girl, let me tell you a little bit about her…

Our family always called her the Walmart greeter because she genuinely loved meeting everyone. The only time she ever got us in trouble was when she’d take off during walks to go say hello to someone, completely ignoring our attempts to call her back. Her tail wagged a million times per second, spinning in circles like she had a tiny helicopter attached to her and was about to lift off.

She gave kisses like it was her full-time job and never cared whether you wanted them or not. She was endlessly loyal and followed me around the house wherever I went, always right by my side. She had a little freckle on the right side of her nose that made me smile every single time I looked at her.

Most importantly, she was happy. Right up until the very end, she was happy.

I’m sure many of you have met a golden retriever before, but Piper was the definition of a golden retriever times one hundred. She loved with her whole heart, found joy in the simplest things, and made everyone around her feel special.

She was simply too pure for this world.💛🥺

From personal experience, navigating grief while honoring their memory can be both heartbreaking and healing. I remember when I lost my own dog; the overwhelming sense of loss felt unbearable, but sharing stories and memories helped keep their spirit alive. Piper’s story reminds me how much golden retrievers truly are special companions. Their friendliness, unconditional love, and joyful personalities make them unforgettable. Just like Piper, my dog had this magical way of connecting with everyone — tail wagging nonstop, a go-to hugger, and always eager to be by my side. These qualities create lasting bonds that transcend time. A beautiful way to honor pets like Piper is by creating a memory box or photo album filled with your favorite moments and keepsakes. This practice not only preserves memories but also provides comfort during tough times. It's inspiring to see how Piper’s owner remembers her as “the Walmart greeter,” a nickname full of warmth and personality. The phrase "until we meet again" truly resonates with anyone who’s lost a pet. It reflects hope and the belief that love continues beyond physical presence. In the meantime, embracing the happiness and loyalty our pets gave us can help soothe the pain. If you’re going through a similar loss, consider connecting with pet loss support groups or forums dedicated to grief. Sharing your feelings and hearing others’ stories can be incredibly helpful. Remember, grief is personal and healing takes time, but you are not alone. In the spirit of Piper’s joy and love, I encourage all pet owners to cherish the moments you have with your furry friends — celebrate their quirks, find joy in the simplest things, and hold them close in your heart forever.
