... Read moreSince bringing my LEM 10-Tray Double Door Countertop Dehydrator into my kitchen, my world of healthy snacks and food preservation has completely transformed! I've been experimenting non-stop, and I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to really maximize this fantastic appliance, especially for those looking to make delicious dried fruits, vegetables, and jerky right at home. It truly lives up to its "multi-tray capacity" promise. Mastering Fruit Drying with Your LEM 10-Tray: One of the first things I tried was fruit, and honestly, the results were incredible. Think about those vibrant, colorful fruits like apples, cherries, kiwi, blueberries, and pears – they all dehydrate beautifully into super healthy snacks. My top tip for fruit is consistent slicing. Whether you’re using a mandoline for apples or carefully cutting kiwi, uniform thickness ensures everything dries evenly. For apples and pears, a quick dip in a lemon juice and water solution (about 1 part lemon juice to 3 parts water) prevents browning, keeping them looking appealing and retaining their freshness. I usually set my LEM dehydrator to around 135°F (57°C). Drying times vary; thinner slices of apples might be ready in 6-8 hours, while thicker berries or peach slices could take 10-15 hours. You'll know they're done when they're leathery and pliable, with no soft spots inside. With the 10 trays, I can dry a huge batch at once, which is perfect for meal prepping snacks for the whole week! Vegetable Drying for Soups and More: Don't overlook the power of drying vegetables! This is fantastic for making your own soup mixes or even grinding dried veggies into powders for seasoning. For harder vegetables like carrots or broccoli, a quick blanching (boiling for a minute or two, then immediately plunging into ice water) helps retain their color and nutrients during drying. Slice vegetables thin – think zucchini chips, sweet potato rounds, or tomato slices. I typically set the temperature a bit lower for vegetables, around 125°F (52°C), for about 4-10 hours depending on the water content and thickness. Having the "translucent double doors" of the LEM 10-Tray is super handy here, as I can peek in without interrupting the drying process too much. Once dried, these can be stored in airtight containers and added directly to stews, soups, or rehydrated for side dishes. Crafting Perfect Homemade Jerky: Okay, I admit it: making jerky is my absolute favorite use for my LEM 10-Tray. There's something so satisfying about creating your own custom-flavored, high-protein snacks. The key is to start with lean cuts of meat (like flank steak or venison) and slice them against the grain as thin as possible – partially freezing the meat beforehand makes this much easier. A good marinade is crucial for both flavor and preservation. Let the meat marinate for at least 8-12 hours in the fridge to really soak up those delicious flavors. When loading the "stainless steel trays," make sure pieces aren't overlapping to ensure "even drying" from the powerful rear-mounted fan. I usually crank the temperature up to 155°F (68°C) for jerky, and it can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. You'll know it's ready when it's pliable and firm, but doesn't snap, and has no signs of moisture. The removable "drip tray" also makes cleanup after jerky super easy, catching any excess marinade. This LEM 10-Tray Dehydrator has truly simplified my journey towards a more self-sufficient and healthy lifestyle. The sheer volume you can process with its 10 trays means I'm always stocked with my favorite dried goodies. Experiment with different fruits, veggies, and marinades – you'll be amazed at what you can create!
