Do you need to improve your WPM and need something that is fun and exciting to do?? These are a few of the games I used when I first started using a computer in middle school and a lot of these seriously helped improve my typing!
You can enjoy some friendly competition with people from all over the world and even collect cars and other items to give you incentive to keep on going!
My favorite by far is Nitro Type! It is super faced paced and honestly so fun to see you type against real people in real time!

I remember when I first started using a computer, my typing speed was... well, let's just say it wasn't winning any races! But I quickly realized how crucial a good WPM (words per minute) was, not just for school but for everything online. That's when I stumbled upon these amazing typing games, and they completely transformed my skills. It wasn't just about practicing; it was about having a blast while doing it! My absolute go-to was Nitro Type, and honestly, it’s still one of the best for a reason. Imagine a high-octane car racing typing game where your typing speed directly controls your car's pace. The nitro type race screen is so engaging – you see your car, your opponents, and the text you need to type, all in real-time. It’s incredibly motivating to watch your little vehicle zoom past others as you accurately blast through paragraphs. The game interface is super intuitive, making it easy to jump right into a race. What kept me hooked beyond just improving my speed was the thrill of the nitro type leaderboard. Seeing my name climb the ranks, earning those cool unlockable cars and medals – it was pure incentive! Every race felt like an adrenaline rush, pushing me to type faster and more accurately. If you're looking for other fantastic typing games like Nitro Type, TypeRacer is another gem. While also a competitive car racing typing game, TypeRacer has a slightly different feel. It pits you against global players, and the focus is very much on precise, continuous typing. The typeracer game interface is clean and straightforward, letting you focus on the text and your opponents' progress. The real-time leaderboard here is just as thrilling, showing you exactly where you stand against typists from all over the world. It’s a great way to practice various texts, from song lyrics to famous quotes, keeping things interesting. And of course, I can't forget 10FastFingers multiplayer race. This one is brilliant for quick, competitive bursts. It's less about the car racing visuals and more about raw speed and accuracy in a short, intense test. It’s perfect for a quick warm-up or when you just want to see how you stack up against others without the added visual complexity. Beyond these racing games, I also explored Typing Attack, which the images reminded me of! It’s a fun twist where you're "lasering down words" by typing them quickly, a great way to break up the racing style and work on quick reflexes for individual words. To genuinely boost your WPM, I found a few things really helped me. First, consistency is key; even just 15-20 minutes a day made a huge difference. Second, focus on accuracy before speed. It’s tempting to go as fast as possible, but mistakes slow you down more in the long run. Practicing proper finger placement and minimizing errors will naturally lead to higher speeds. And finally, don't be afraid to try different games. Each one offers a unique challenge and can help improve different aspects of your typing. Using the leaderboard for motivation and tracking your progress across the various game interfaces can really keep you engaged on your journey to becoming a typing master!
