Don’t want to pay for Goodnotes and Notion just yet? I have the perfect free solution!
This is a great way to see if you’d be interested in taking notes on your iPad, I know I haven’t paid for my Goodnotes subscription yet because I found out the iPhone notes app isn’t actually THAT bad for a free option!
You may need Canva pro to access certain templates but there are some good free options to use on Canva so you can find one you like! Make sure you leave the template blank and download it blank in Canva because you will be able to write and draw on it in the actual Notes app!
Here’s the steps:
-Type into the Canva search bar: iPad Notes Templates
-Pick a Design you like
-Click the download button in the top right hand corner and select PNG and click download
-After the special screen pops up click on the note app icon
-Name your template and then click save

If you're like me, you love the idea of digital note-taking on your iPad but aren't ready to commit to expensive subscriptions for apps like Goodnotes or Notion. What if I told you there's a fantastic way to create aesthetic notes and even a personalized digital planner using just your iPad's built-in Notes app and Canva? It's a game-changer! Getting started with Canva on your iPad is incredibly intuitive. The Canva app interface is super user-friendly, even if you’re new to design. Once you open the app, you can easily type keywords like "iPad Notes Templates" or "weekly planner" into the search bar. You'll be amazed by the variety of free and paid templates available. I often browse through different designs on Canva, looking for layouts that would make my notes look organized and appealing. When I find a design I love, whether it's a simple lined page or a detailed weekly planner template with sections for tasks and priorities, I make sure to select one that fits the aesthetic I'm going for. It's so satisfying to see how a blank template can transform into a beautiful backdrop for my thoughts. After picking your ideal template, the next step is to download it. You'll usually see a download button in the top right-hand corner of the Canva interface. When you're given options, always choose PNG. This ensures a high-quality image that looks crisp and clear when imported into your Notes app. Once downloaded, your iPad will likely prompt you with a share sheet. Look for the Notes app icon and tap it. This will allow you to save the template directly into a new note. I usually title my new note something like "Weekly Planner Template" or "Lined Paper Template" for easy organization later. The OCR even picked up on how to make notes look organized, and that's exactly what these templates help with! Now for the fun part: making your iPad notes aesthetic with your own handwriting! With the template saved in your Notes app, you can use your Apple Pencil to write directly on it. The experience of digital planner handwriting on these custom templates feels incredibly natural. I love experimenting with different pen tools and colors available in the Notes app to make my handwritten entries pop. For example, I use a bolder pen for headings and a finer one for detailed tasks. You can highlight important information, add little sketches, or even import stickers from other apps to personalize your notes further. This method lets me have all the benefits of a digital planner – like easy editing and endless pages – without having to shell out money for a dedicated app. It’s truly the best of both worlds for anyone wanting aesthetic notes on their iPad without the cost. Give it a try, and you'll see how easy it is to create beautifully organized digital planners!

Thank you so much!!!! 🔥❤️🥰
