12 Weeks

On the day of 12 weeks, I woke up with a bump!

I’ve never seen myself carry weight right here.

It makes my heart so full! I thought surely this can’t be a bump yet, but lots of googling and searching in apps, it sure is my baby showing up! I officially have 6 days left of my first trimester!

It felt like one day I was just feeling a bit bloated, and the next, there it was – a definite little roundness that wasn't just too much pasta! Many mamas-to-be wonder, 'Is it normal to have a bump at 12 weeks pregnant?' and I was right there with you, googling every variation of 'early pregnancy bump 12 weeks.' The image in the article really captures that exciting moment at '12 Weeks' when you truly start to see the change. What I learned is that yes, it's absolutely normal for some women to start showing around 12 weeks, while others might not see a noticeable bump until well into their second trimester. There are so many factors at play! For a first-time mom like me, sometimes it's a mix of actual uterine growth and a bit of bloating. Your uterus is growing quickly now, moving up out of your pelvis and becoming more prominent. Plus, pregnancy hormones can definitely cause some extra bloat, which contributes to that 'baby bump' look even before the baby itself is very big. It's often referred to as a 'uterine-bump' rather than a 'baby-bump' at this very early stage, as the baby is still tiny! Around 12 weeks, your little one is growing so fast, about the size of a plum or a large lime! Their organs are fully formed, and they're starting to kick and move, though you won't feel it for a few more weeks yet. It’s such an exciting milestone, marking the end of the first trimester – a huge relief for many of us who might have been battling morning sickness or extreme fatigue! It's a wonderful feeling to finally start looking pregnant rather than just feeling unwell. If you're looking at your belly at 10 weeks pregnant and feeling nothing, or at 14 weeks pregnant and still not seeing much, please don't compare yourself too much. Every body is different! Factors like your body type, abdominal muscle tone, and even whether it's your first or subsequent pregnancy can affect when you start to show. With subsequent pregnancies, your muscles might be a bit more relaxed, leading to an earlier bump. Don't stress if your 12 weeks bump isn't as big as someone else's 10 weeks belly bump, or if you're already showing a bit at 12 weeks pregnant when others aren't. I found it so helpful to look at 'baby bump stages' photos online to get a general idea of the average progression, but ultimately, my body is doing its own unique thing. What's important is that your baby is growing safely inside, and your doctor or midwife confirms everything is on track. Whether you have a prominent 12 week baby bump or a subtle hint, it's all part of the magical journey. Embrace your unique pregnancy experience! It's truly amazing to witness these changes as your body nurtures new life. Keep nurturing yourself and your little one, and enjoy every single moment of your pregnancy – the little kicks you'll soon feel, and the growing excitement of meeting your baba. You've got this!
