My review: I may not have loved this one as much as the first, but it did make me cry! I can’t wait to start book 2!
I recently dived into *Eyes Turned Skyward*, Rebecca Yarros's much-anticipated second installment in the Flight & Glory series, and I'm still processing all the emotions it stirred up! As a big fan of contemporary romance, especially those with a bit of angst and depth, I was excited to pick this one up, especially knowing Rebecca Yarros is a New York Times Bestselling Author and popular on platforms like TikTok. My initial reaction to Eyes Turned Skyward was a three-star rating, and yes, it definitely made me cry. The story has a way of tugging at your heartstrings, dealing with themes of loss, healing, and finding love amid incredibly challenging circumstances. The characters are undeniably complex, and their struggles felt very real, which contributed to the emotional impact. There were moments where I was completely engrossed, feeling every bit of their pain and hope. However, I have to be honest and say it didn't quite capture my heart the way *Full Measures*, the first book in the series, did. For me, Full Measures had a certain spark, a raw intensity in the chemistry and plot that felt slightly different here. While Eyes Turned Skyward delivered on the emotional front, some aspects of the pacing or character development didn't resonate as strongly with me. If you loved the first book, prepare for a slightly different journey, but still one rooted in the world and emotional landscape Yarros so expertly builds. Speaking of the book itself, the cover is quite striking! The image of a blue sky with yellow flowers perfectly encapsulates the bittersweet hope and beauty within the story. It hints at new beginnings and the fragile beauty of life, which is a big part of what the characters are navigating. It's a cover that promises a poignant contemporary romance, and in that, it certainly delivers. Overall, Eyes Turned Skyward is a solid read for anyone who enjoys military romance, stories of resilience, and characters grappling with heavy emotional baggage. If you’re looking for a book that will make you feel deeply and maybe even shed a tear or two, this one is a strong contender. It’s definitely a testament to Rebecca Yarros’s talent for crafting stories that stay with you long after the last page. While it wasn't my absolute favorite in the series, I'm still eagerly anticipating what she'll bring us next!
