A Day in Petrified Forest National Park
Petrified Forest National Park
📍Located off the I40, about an hour and a half east of Flagstaff, Arizona.
Travel Tips
✨ Tip 1: Pack at least a gallon of water per person in your party. Especially if you’re planning on visiting in the summer.
✨ Tip 2: Hike the trails if you can! There several different trails to choose from in the park, including some that are ADA accessible. We hiked the Blue Mesa and Jasper Forest Trails.
✨ Tip 3: Always swing by the visitors center (If they’re open). This is the best way to find out about ranger programs, the history of the park, and on-site on trail conditions.
🌈🥾🪵 As always remember to Leave No Trace
Petrified Forest National Park is a stunning destination that showcases the beauty of ancient trees turned to stone. Located near the Painted Desert, the park offers a range of activities for all visitors. Be sure to check out key sites such as Kachina Point and the historic Painted Desert Inn. If you're interested in education, joining the Junior Ranger program is a fantastic way for kids to learn about the park's ecology and history. The park also features distinct geological formations and petroglyphs at Newspaper Rock. For those planning to hike, remember that the park presents trails suitable for different skill levels, with options including the ADA-accessible paths, which enhance accessibility for all. To maximize your experience, always start your visit at the visitor center for updated information on ranger-led programs and trail conditions. Don't forget to bring plenty of water, especially during the hotter months, and always abide by the Leave No Trace principles to preserve the park's natural beauty for generations to come.
