These are some SOTC medicine my OBGYN gave me he said it is a list put together by a few OB. Doctors and it is safe to take, while pregnant. I thought I’d share it. I’m not a doctor so be sure to ask your OB first everyone is different.

2024/9/27 Edited to

... Read moreHey mamas-to-be! Just like you, I've been navigating the ups and downs of pregnancy, and let me tell you, those little aches and pains can really add up. I was so grateful when my OBGYN gave me this fantastic list of safe over-the-counter medications. It's truly been a game-changer for me, helping me find relief without worrying about my baby's safety. Of course, every pregnancy is unique, so please always chat with your own doctor before trying anything new. This is just what worked for me and was approved by medical professionals! Tackling Those Pesky Headaches: Headaches seem to be a common complaint, don't they? For general headache relief, my doctor suggested Tylenol (always follow bottle instructions!). For those who suffer from migraines, like me, they recommended a combo of Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) 400mg and Magnesium Oxide 400mg daily for prevention. It's been a lifesaver for keeping those intense headaches at bay. Congestion & Cough Woes: Oh, the stuffy nose and coughs! It feels like they hit harder when you're pregnant. For nasal congestion, I’ve found great relief with saline sinus rinses, a humidifier, and Claritin/Zyrtec or Benedryl. My OB also mentioned Flonase/Nasacort as safe options. Now, about Sudafed and Mucinex – they're generally not recommended, especially in the first trimester. However, my doctor did say Sudafed may be used after the first trimester, which is good to know if you're really struggling. For coughs, I keep Robitussin and Vicks 44 (dextromethorpan) on hand. And yes, cough drops are definitely safe and soothing! Heartburn Hell No More: Heartburn has been a big one for me, especially after certain meals. The go-to remedies my OB suggested are Tums, Maalox, or Mylanta. For more persistent issues, they recommended trying Pepcid, then Prilosec/Nexium/Prevacid in that order. Beyond meds, simple lifestyle tweaks like frequent small meals, reducing fat intake, and waiting at least 30 minutes after eating before lying down have made a huge difference. I also tried natural remedies like fresh pineapple, raw almonds, papaya tablets, and even a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with water – surprisingly effective! Dealing with Swelling and Other Discomforts: Swelling, especially in the legs, can be uncomfortable. My doctor recommended Vitamin B6 50-100mg per day, and boosting my water intake. Eating foods like lemon, watermelon, strawberries, and cucumber can also help. Decreasing salt and using compression stockings are also great tips. For yeast infections, Monistat 7 or Gyne-Lotrimin 7 were on the safe list. Hemorrhoids (another not-so-fun pregnancy symptom!) can be soothed with Witch hazel tucks and hydrocortisone cream. And those dreadful leg cramps? Tums or Calcium 1000mg at bedtime, along with Magnesium lactate or Citrate, can help. Avoiding pointing toes, flexing your foot, elevating, increasing fluids, and warm baths are also good. Finally, for ligament pain, Tylenol and a maternity belt have been my best friends. Remember, this list from my OBGYN has been such a comfort, knowing I have safe options for common pregnancy issues. Always check in with your healthcare provider to ensure these are right for your specific situation. Wishing you a comfortable and healthy pregnancy journey!
