Tonight I walked through the door completely overwhelmed.
My first instinct was to reach for something—anything—to calm myself down.
But I can’t do that anymore.
So instead, I sat down and made a video.
And in that process, with God’s help, I had to actually think my way through the stress instead of escaping it.
Something beautiful happens when I create.
The noise quiets.
My thoughts slow down.
My prayers shift.
By the end, I realized the problems that felt so heavy weren’t nearly as big as they seemed. They became right-sized. Manageable. Lighter.
And then my heart turned outward—toward the struggles my friends, my loved ones, and so many people I care about are facing. Things far bigger than the stress I carried tonight.
Creating helps me put myself in perspective.
It helps me hand my worries to God and turn my prayers toward those who truly need them.
Grateful for this process.
Grateful for a God who meets me right where I am.
Amen 🤍
Managing stress during urgent animal care situations, such as coordinating with poison control or emergency vets, can be deeply overwhelming. Many caretakers find themselves powerless against the fear of their beloved animals’ suffering, especially when dealing with emergencies like poisoning or severe illnesses requiring immediate intervention. In such moments, turning to creative outlets like making videos or journaling can be a therapeutic way to process intense emotions and regain composure. Using creativity as a coping mechanism helps slow racing thoughts and quiet the mind, creating space to reframe problems more realistically. This often results in viewing the situation with renewed strength and calmness. Importantly, it enables individuals to shift their focus outward — from personal anxiety to empathy and prayer for those facing even greater challenges. Spiritual practices combined with creativity nurture resilience and foster a sense of connection beyond oneself. For caretakers of animals, these moments of reflection can ultimately lead to a clearer mind and a more hopeful heart to handle demanding circumstances. Engaging in prayer or meditative reflection with acknowledgment of a higher power can provide comfort, reminding us that support is available even in the darkest times. If you find yourself overwhelmed during an animal health crisis, consider engaging in simple creative activities or mindful prayer to release tension and gain perspective. This approach transforms stress into purposeful energy, helping you stay grounded and focused on what truly matters: the well-being of your animal and the community of support around you.
