Okay, so you know how some dogs just love watching TV? Well, my Frenchie is absolutely one of them! I swear, sometimes I think he's more invested in the plot than I am. Just the other day, he was completely engrossed in a scene that sounded super dramatic – I distinctly heard dialogue about a 'truck' and someone named 'Valiente' talking about a 'bull' and 'horns.' It totally reminded me of that animated movie Ferdinand! He was sniffing the screen, tilting his head, and making little grumbles. It was hilarious! It got me thinking, why do our Frenchies (and other pups!) get so captivated by the glowing screen? A lot of it has to do with their senses. They're drawn to the movement on screen, especially fast-paced actions or other animals. The sounds also play a huge role – barks, squeaks, or even human voices can grab their attention. For my Frenchie, it seems to be a mix of both. He perks up every time an animal appears or if there's any sudden noise. I've noticed he has a particular preference for shows with other animals. Documentaries, nature shows, and even some cartoons with animal characters are always a hit. Interestingly, the dialogue from that 'bull and truck' scene really caught his ear. I wonder if it’s the lower frequencies or just the excitement in the voices! Sometimes, he even tries to interact with the screen, which is super cute but also makes me worry about his nose prints on the glass! 😂 If your Frenchie is also a budding TV critic, here are a few things I've learned: Monitor their reactions: While it's fun, make sure they're not getting overly stressed or agitated by what they're watching. Some dogs can get really worked up by certain sounds or images. Choose appropriate content: There are actually channels and videos made specifically for dogs! These often feature calming music, nature scenes, or other dogs. It's not a substitute for walks: Screen time is fun, but it doesn't replace physical exercise and mental stimulation from walks, playtime, and training. Use it as background noise: Sometimes, I'll put on a dog-friendly show just for some ambient sound when I leave the house, just to keep things feeling familiar for him. Watching my Frenchie enjoy his 'latest' TV discovery is always a highlight of my day. It's amazing to see their personalities shine through even in simple moments like this.
