How do you feel about this change?

Pleakley is no longer dressed as a woman to disguise himself in Earth, in the new live-action Lilo and Stitch movie. Instead he just transformed into a human using some kind of advanced tech.

Well now, director Dan Fleischer has revealed on his TikTok account that he tried to get that moment in the film. He looked frustrated and disappointed.

... Read moreOkay, so I've been thinking a lot about this Pleakley news from the Lilo & Stitch live-action. For so many of us, Pleakley's drag disguises were such an iconic, hilarious, and even progressive part of the original animated movie. Remember all those fantastic outfits, like the one with the floral dress and red wig? It wasn't just for laughs; it really added to his character's charm and resourcefulness on Earth as he tried to blend in. The original film showed him confidently rocking various feminine attire, and it was a fun, lighthearted way to explore gender presentation without making a big deal out of it. It simply was Pleakley. When I heard they're replacing it with some 'advanced tech' for a human transformation, my first thought was, 'Wait, why?' It feels like a significant departure from what made Pleakley, well, Pleakley. The director's frustration, as mentioned, really echoes how many fans might feel – like a part of the original magic is being overlooked or changed for reasons we don't quite understand. It makes you wonder about the creative decisions behind these live-action remakes, and how much creative control the original visionaries really have when studio demands come into play. It's a common concern in these reboots, isn't it? We want the essence preserved, but sometimes changes feel... unnecessary. We've seen images floating around, including that promotional one showing a human-like character with red hair and a floral dress, which is presumably Pleakley's new form. While it looks visually interesting and the animation tech seems impressive, it's not quite the same as the drag persona we knew and loved. The original concept was about a clumsy alien trying his best to look like a human woman, often with hilariously disproportionate results. Now, if it's just a seamless 'transformation,' does it lose some of that endearing awkwardness? It raises questions about how other characters might be adapted. Will Stitch himself get a human form, or other aliens? The charm of Lilo & Stitch often came from the aliens trying to blend in, sometimes clumsily, sometimes brilliantly, and Pleakley's drag was a prime example of that brilliant clumsiness. His attempts to understand human culture, especially through his disguises, were a huge source of comedy and character development. I imagine many of you are feeling a bit conflicted, just like I am. On one hand, I'm genuinely excited for a new Lilo & Stitch story, especially seeing our beloved characters in a new light. But on the other, I worry about losing those unique, character-defining quirks that made the original so special. It's tough when beloved elements are changed, and you can't help but feel a little bit like the director tried to keep it, but couldn't. It makes you wonder what other surprises (or disappointments) the live-action movie might hold. What are your hopes or concerns for how they'll handle the rest of the film's beloved characters, or even the overall tone? I'm personally hoping they find other ways to bring that unique Pleakley humor and heart to the screen, even if it's not through his classic drag outfits. It’s definitely a hot topic among fans right now, and I'd love to hear your take on it!

It’s funny to me that people have a problem with it now when the original movie came out in 2002 and nobody blinked an eye, plus the tv show and dtv sequels…

The reason it wasn’t a big deal when lilo snd stitch first came out is because it wasn’t a propaganda to shove down our throats it was just a funny thing he did. Although i’m not ecstatic that they changed it from the original because I adore the original with pleakley dressing as a woman I thought it was funny as a kid, I am glad they aren’t using children’s movies to promote their agendas thats not the place for it. I’m not saying it shouldn’t ever be in a movie or in a lilo and stitch movie I’m just saying it should be done for the right reasons not to push something that has nothing to do with the movie. Thats why it wasn’t an issue when these movies came out originally. Also, do not think I’m only saying this for one side i think anything placed in a movie to support the propaganda of either the right or the left is wrong to do in children’s movies. Disney should not be a political cartoon machine for either sides benefit.
