☕ Dutch Colony @ Frankel — Worth the Trip?

☕️ Is Dutch Colony at Frankel worth travelling for?

We went to Dutch Colony at Frankle Ave for breakfast and okay… their coffee is GOOD. 😂

I had their iced latte and if you like your coffee stronger, you’ll probably like theirs. Compared to something like Coffee Bean, I find the coffee here much stronger and you can actually taste the coffee properly.

And their shakshuka??? SOOOO GOOD. 🤤

Warm, tomatoey, eggs, bread to scoop everything up… I would actually come back for this.

Food-wise, if I remember correctly, most of the mains were around $13–$28, so pretty standard cafe pricing.

BUTTTT.

Would I travel all the way to Frankel JUST to eat here?

Probably not. 😂

I feel like Dutch Colony is worth checking out if you’re already around the East, or you’re specifically going cafe hopping and want somewhere nice for breakfast + good coffee.

Because if your only mission is:

“I’m in the East. I’m hungry. Feed me.”

Girl… you have OPTIONS. 😭

📍 Eunos — Eunos Crescent Market and Food Centre

Right beside Eunos MRT and you can get your usual hawker breakfast — economic bee hoon, porridge, fishball noodles, prata, mee goreng etc.

📍 Geylang Serai — Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre

Nasi padang, briyani, mee, otak-otak, traditional kueh… basically come hungry. There are LOADS of Malay and Indian-Muslim options here.

📍 Simpang Bedok — Simpang Bedok

Prata, murtabak, sup tulang, seafood, dim sum… and this is especially dangerous when you’re hungry at night. 😂

📍 Changi Village — Changi Village Hawker Centre

Nasi lemak, laksa, dim sum and all sorts of hawker food. Honestly you can just walk one round and decide based on whatever smells the best. 🤣

So my verdict:

☕️ For cafe hopping / good coffee / nice breakfast: Dutch Colony ✅

🍳 If you’re already around Frankel: Definitely can try!

🚗 Drive across Singapore JUST for it: Ehhhh… unless you really want cafe food. 😂

Because the East has WAY too many food options.

Okay writing all these made me hungry. Omg I’m drooling. 🤤😭

... Read moreWhen visiting Dutch Colony at Frankel Avenue, it’s good to know that their coffee stands out for its rich and strong flavor, especially compared to other local chains like Coffee Bean. Their iced latte is a personal favorite if you appreciate a bold coffee experience. Beyond the drinks, the shakshuka is a highlight—a warm, tomatoey dish with perfectly cooked eggs and fresh bread that makes it truly enjoyable. If you’re planning a trip specifically to Dutch Colony, consider whether you’re already in the East or looking to explore the neighborhood’s cafe scene. It’s an excellent choice for breakfast and cafe hopping when you’re near Frankel Ave. However, the area is packed with a variety of food options that might also be worth exploring, such as hawker centers offering traditional dishes. Locations like Eunos Crescent Market, Geylang Serai Market, Simpang Bedok, and Changi Village Hawker Centre provide an abundance of local favorites—from nasi lemak to prata and laksa, all within a short distance. These places offer authentic, flavorful meals at reasonable prices and can be a fun way to dive deeper into East Singapore’s diverse food culture. In summary, Dutch Colony suits those who value specialty coffee and a nice cafe atmosphere. But if you’re hungry and looking for something quick and familiar, the nearby hawker centers have countless options that are economical and beloved by locals. So balance your craving for cafe quality with an appetite for local flavors, and your visit to the East side will be very satisfying!
