Why Are You Still Holding On?

Text: Isaiah 53:5; John 19:30; Hebrews 10:12–14

The cross is not a symbol of inspiration—it is the brutal altar of divine justice, soaked in the blood of the perfect Lamb of GOD.

Jesus didn’t die to make salvation possible.

He died to accomplish it.

“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities” (Isa. 53:5, ESV).

That means your sin—every lie, lust, prideful thought, every rebellious act, every bitter grudge—was laid upon Him. And He bore it all.

At Golgotha, when Jesus cried, “It is finished” (John 19:30), He wasn’t uttering a word of defeat. He was declaring triumph. The Greek term "Tetelestai" was a financial term meaning “paid in full.” Do you see it? Every debt you owed to GOD’S perfect law, every righteous requirement you could never meet—paid. Fully. Finally. Forever.

Yet here's the tragedy: many who claim to be Christians still live as if Christ’s work needs to be supplemented. You carry guilt He already buried. You strive to earn a righteousness He already imputed. You flirt with sin as if He didn’t bleed to rescue you from it. You treat His cross like a down payment rather than a full redemption.

Hebrews 10:14 says, “For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” This means the only thing left to do is worship—and obey. To continue walking in sin while claiming Christ is to trample His blood underfoot (cf. Heb. 10:29). It is spiritual treason.

Christian, if Jesus paid it all, then:

Why are you still trying to prove your worth?

Why are you still living in secret compromise?

Why are you still dabbling with the very sin that crucified your Savior?

You don’t need to clean yourself up to come to Christ. You need to come to Christ to be cleaned. His grace is not a license to sin—it’s power to kill it. The gospel is not moral encouragement—it’s divine rescue.

Repent. Not with vague sorrow, but with real hatred for the sin that demanded the blood of Jesus.

Rest. Not in your progress, but in His perfection. He paid it all—so stop pretending you can earn what only grace provides.

Rejoice. Not in fleeting pleasures, but in the hope of glory. The One who paid it all will lose none who are His.

"Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe.

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow."

So stop living like a debtor. Live like one who’s been bought.

“You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

—1 Corinthians 6:19b–20

You either belong to your sin or to your Savior.

But not both.
