Sketch - Parrot 🦜 🖊

I'm really happy with how the eye turned out in this sketch. I used the same technique as yesterday for the feathers, and I think they came out really well too.

In my recent sketch, I focused on bringing the parrot's eye to life, which I believe is the window to the soul of any wildlife drawing. Using a gradual shading technique around the iris and highlighting reflections helps create a realistic and captivating eye. For the feathers, a consistent approach is key. Repeating the same method I used previously, I layered fine strokes to simulate the texture and flow of feathers, paying close attention to their natural patterns. This method allows the feathers to appear soft yet structured, giving depth and dimension to the sketch. When working on bird sketches, I find it helpful to study reference photos closely, noting how light interacts with different areas. This can inform where to add highlights or deepen shadows to enhance realism. Using pencil grades from hard (H) to soft (B) also allows better control over texture and shading intensity. Overall, patience and careful observation are essential. Taking the time to build up these fine details transforms a simple sketch into an artwork that truly captures the essence of the parrot. I encourage fellow artists to experiment with these techniques and enjoy the process of bringing their wildlife sketches to life.
