These take 1st place with how long lasting they are. My favorite of all 4 pictured above. Once they’re on? They’re not coming off. Easy to apply, classy, and can last weeks! The beat part was I didn’t need to use a glue, it was already on the nail and I just had to stick them on. So worth it!!
2. Sally Hanson Perfect Manicure
⭐️Overall rating: 8/10
Not as easy to apply as the ImPress nails as these I had to use a glue for, whereas the ImPress nails already had the glue on them. But the nails were super cute and looked very natural. I also felt like the paint on the nails started fading from wear as days went on.
3. Quo Nails
⭐️Overall rating: 6/10
The glue was not that great. I had issues with having to reapply here and there but not the worst. Again, it includes a glue that you have to use for the nails. Also the nails did not look as natural as the Sally Hanson ones.
4. Kiss Bare But Better
⭐️Overall rating: 2/10
Surprisingly these were the LEAST long-lasting. It was pretty inconvenient to wear these and made the effort not worth it. I wanted to love them as Kiss has been in the beauty game so long. But they take last place. If you want nails to wear just for a bit, like an event for a few hours, than these are fine. But if you want your nails to stay through the night, do yourself a favor and leave these alone😭
... Read moreOkay, so you've heard about ImPress Bare nails, or maybe you're just diving into the world of press-on nails like I did! My initial review touched on why I love ImPress Bare so much, especially their ImPress Bare but Better line. Seriously, these pre-glued beauties are a game-changer if you want a long-lasting manicure without the salon price tag. But let's get into the nitty-gritty of how to make them truly last and why they often beat out others like Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure, Kiss Bare but Better, or even Quo Faux Nails for me.
The secret to making ImPress Bare but Better live up to its hype really starts with prep. I've learned that even though they're super easy to apply, taking an extra minute makes all the difference. First, make sure your natural nails are completely clean and dry. I always swipe them with alcohol to get rid of any oils. Then, here’s my personal trick: don’t just stick them on. Gently push back your cuticles (the kit usually comes with a little tool for this!) and select the right size. If you're between sizes, go slightly smaller rather than larger for a more natural look and better seal. Press firmly for at least 30 seconds, especially on the edges. I find that avoiding water for the first hour or two after application really helps them bond. This simple routine has extended my ImPress Bare wear time significantly, often for weeks, making them truly cheaper than the salon in the long run!
Now, while ImPress Bare consistently delivers for me, I've experimented with other brands too, as you saw in my rankings. For example, the Sally Hansen Perfect Manicure set, often seen in classic shades like white almond, can give a beautiful finish, but needing a separate glue adds an extra step and sometimes a bit of mess. And while I appreciate the effort, the durability wasn't quite the same as ImPress. Similarly, Kiss Bare but Better (which I've seen in shades like nude orange) just didn't hold up for everyday wear, even though Kiss has been a big name in beauty for ages. And my experience with Quo Faux Nails (often in lovely nude pinks) was similar – the glue was hit-or-miss.
What I've realized is that the convenience of the pre-applied adhesive on ImPress Bare is a huge factor in its success and longevity. You don't have to worry about applying too much or too little glue, which can make or break your press-on experience. If you’re looking for a quick fix that really stays put for special events or just daily wear without constant reapplication, these are my go-to. They really do "slay & stay" as the image title suggested!
Beyond specific brands, here are some general tips I've picked up for any type of press-on nails to ensure they look great and last longer:
Buff lightly: A gentle buff on your natural nail surface creates a better grip for the adhesive.
Avoid harsh chemicals: When cleaning, wear gloves! Harsh soaps or cleaning products can degrade the adhesive quickly.
Don't pick or peel: If a nail starts to lift, try to gently press it back down or remove it completely and reapply with a bit of extra nail glue if it's not an ImPress.
Consider a top coat: For non-gel press-ons, a clear top coat can add shine and extra protection against chipping, especially if you're using ones with designs or colors.
Ultimately, finding the perfect press-on nails is about balancing convenience, style (whether it's pink with white tips or a simple nude), and staying power. For me, ImPress Bare consistently hits that sweet spot, offering a long-lasting, salon-quality look without costing an arm and a leg or taking up precious time. Give them a try with these tips, and you might just find your new favorite manicure hack!
