Part 2

After that, things actually went back to normal. She was okay again once we got off the Grab, and we went to check into a day-use hotel just to shower and freshen up before boarding our night bus to Sapa.

I already prepared myself mentally that it was going to be a tiring day ahead, especially since we took a night bus and probably wouldn’t get proper rest.

During the bus ride, she kept saying she couldn’t sleep because there were too many lights and she was uncomfortable. I just told her to wear her sunglasses so she could at least rest better. She did, and later said she actually managed to fall asleep.

We reached Sapa early in the morning around 7AM, but our hotel room wasn’t ready yet since check-in was only at 2PM. So there was this long gap from 7AM to 2PM.

I had a paragliding activity at 8AM, which she wasn’t interested in, so she stayed at the hotel lobby for about an hour before deciding to head to a café for coffee (which, funnily enough, her boyfriend also suggested).

After my paragliding, I came back and met her again, and we went to find food together. We even went back to the café she had visited earlier.

Everything felt pretty fine at that point.

Later, we returned to the hotel to get our stuff, and then went to visit Cat Cat Village until around 3–4PM.

After that, we finally checked into our room, showered, and rested. I knocked out almost immediately after my shower.

Until around 6:50PM when she woke me up for dinner.

We went out for dinner, came back early to rest… and that’s when the second day drama began.

... Read moreTraveling to Sapa can be a mix of excitement and unexpected challenges, especially when dealing with night buses and early arrivals. From my own experience visiting this charming town, one key tip is to prepare for the long wait between early morning arrivals and hotel check-in times, which often fall in the afternoon. This downtime can be an excellent opportunity to explore local cafes or take a casual stroll, much like the author’s companion did by visiting a café for coffee. Paragliding in Sapa offers breathtaking views of the mountainous landscape and is a must-try activity for adrenaline seekers. It’s normal for travel companions to have differing interests, so planning some solo activities can enhance the trip experience while allowing some personal relaxation time. Visiting Cat Cat Village enriches your trip with cultural insights into the life of the indigenous Hmong community. The village is scenic and peaceful, perfect for walking around and taking photos. Be sure to allocate enough time to explore the trails and local shops. Regarding night bus travel, many travelers find it challenging due to lights and noise. Simple tricks such as wearing sunglasses or eye masks can help improve rest quality. Bringing personal comfort items like travel pillows or earplugs also makes a big difference. Lastly, it’s important to remain flexible and patient when travel plans encounter small dramas, like unforeseen incidents after returning from dinner. These moments, while stressful, often become memorable stories and strengthen travel bonds. Overall, immersing yourself in the local culture, trying adventurous activities, and managing travel fatigue with preparation are key to making the most out of a Sapa trip.
