Ordinary lip balm

Okay, so I have to get this off my chest about The Ordinary Lip Balm. Like many of you, I jumped on the hype train when I saw this new release. I mean, it's The Ordinary, right? Known for effective, affordable skincare. My expectations were pretty high, especially since my lips are always in need of some serious hydration. I even loved the sleek look of the teardrop-shaped bottle—it looked so chic and minimalistic on my vanity. But alas, my excitement quickly turned into a big sigh of disappointment. I was so incredibly eager to give it a try, dreaming of a nourishing, comfortable balm that would rescue my dry pout. However, after just one application, I found myself thinking, 'Oh no, not this again!' My biggest issue, and honestly, the main con for me, was the texture. I was hoping for something luxurious and melting, perhaps a bit creamy or even a lightweight gel-balm. Instead, it felt incredibly similar to Aquaphor. Now, don't get me wrong, Aquaphor has its place – it's a fantastic occlusive for healing cracked skin or as an overnight treatment. But as an everyday lip balm? For me, it’s a hard pass. When I apply a lip balm throughout the day, I want something that feels comfortable, almost invisible, and absorbs nicely, leaving my lips feeling soft and supple without a heavy film. This The Ordinary Lip Balm, however, just sat on top of my lips, leaving a thick, somewhat greasy barrier. It didn't feel like it was sinking in to provide deep hydration; rather, it felt like a seal. It gave off that same slick, almost waxy-but-slippery sensation that Aquaphor does. While it might prevent moisture loss, it doesn't give me that satisfying feeling of truly hydrated lips. It's like putting a plastic wrap over your lips instead of a comforting moisturizer. And let's talk about the visual aspect. For some reason, when I wear it, my lips just don't look healthy and plump; they look... shiny, but in a way that emphasizes any dryness underneath, rather than masking it. It almost felt like it highlighted the need for actual moisture. This is why for me, it truly was a case of "This is a no for me unfortunately." I kept trying it for a few days, hoping I'd warm up to it, thinking maybe I just needed to adjust. But each time, I just felt that familiar, slightly uncomfortable film. It honestly made me feel like the sad bottom lip emoji myself! So, if you're someone who loves the feeling of a heavy occlusive on their lips, or you're specifically looking for something to create a barrier rather than a deeply nourishing balm that absorbs easily, then perhaps this Ordinary lip balm might work for you. But if you're like me, and you prefer a lighter, more absorbent, and truly comfortable everyday lip treatment, then I'd honestly suggest saving your money. My search for the perfect lip balm continues, and unfortunately, this one just didn't make the cut. It was a good concept, but the execution on texture just wasn't what I was hoping for. Big cons on the comfort and wearability for me.
