UGC: how much I made my first year
Should I share more about how to get started? Or should I post examples of content I’ve made for clients? 💰
Let me know in the comments!
(It would have been a more profitable year but we got pregnant in September and I suffered with severe nausea my entire pregnancy 😔)

Many of you have been curious about the realities of being a UGC creator, especially when it comes to income. I’m so excited to share more details about my journey, particularly my first year, to give you a clearer picture of what you can expect and how to potentially start your own successful path! When I first started creating UGC, I had so many questions about earnings. How much can a beginner truly make? Is it a viable income stream? My first year was a learning curve, but it proved to me that it's absolutely possible to make money. Looking back at my records, my earnings started small in April at just $24, then slowly climbed to $28 in May and $79 in June. By July, I hit $184, and August saw a jump to $370! These numbers might seem modest at first, but it shows a clear growth trajectory as I refined my skills and understood what clients were looking for. There were definitely ups and downs. September, for example, saw my income dip to $230 from the previous month. Life happens, and for me, it was a particularly challenging time due to severe nausea during pregnancy. But I bounced back, hitting my highest month in October with $491! November brought $166, December picked up again with $437, and then January was a bit slower at $16, followed by $148 in February and $112 in March. All in all, my total earnings for that first year came to $2288, and that doesn't even include the valuable free products I received for creating content! It really shows that even with personal challenges, consistent effort can lead to tangible results. So, if you're asking, “how to make money with UGC” or “how to get started,” here are a few things I learned: 1. Build a Strong Portfolio from Day One: You don't need paying clients to start. Create speculative content for brands you love. Show off different styles – unboxing, testimonials, how-to videos, product demos. This is your visual resume and what will attract your first clients. 2. Don't Underestimate Platforms like Fiverr: Many of my early gigs, especially when I was just starting out, came from platforms like Fiverr. It’s a great place to get your foot in the door, build reviews, and understand client expectations. While it might be competitive, it offers a direct route to connecting with brands looking for UGC creators. 3. Set Your Rates Strategically: As a beginner, it's tempting to undercharge, but know your worth. Start with a rate that feels fair for your time and effort, and don't be afraid to increase it as your portfolio grows and your skills improve. Remember, you're not just selling a video; you're selling results for a brand. 4. Network and Engage with the UGC Community: Connect with other creators! You can learn so much from their experiences, get tips on finding clients, and even discover new niches. The UGC community is incredibly supportive. 5. Consistency is Key: Like any freelance venture, consistency in pitching, creating, and delivering high-quality content is crucial. The more you put yourself out there, the more opportunities will come your way. My first year as a UGC creator taught me that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. There will be months where earnings are fantastic, and others where they're slower. But with dedication, continuous learning, and a passion for creating, you can definitely build a profitable income stream. Don't be afraid to start – your journey could be even more successful! What kind of content would you like to see examples of next?
