Raspberry the bordernese

Since I introduced you all to my sweet Raspberry, my 6-month-old Bordernese puppy, I’ve gotten so many questions about what it’s actually like to have one! They truly are ‘lifelong friends,’ and I wanted to share a bit more about this amazing breed, especially for anyone considering bringing a Bordernese puppy into their home or wondering about them as they become full grown. Life with a Bordernese puppy like Raspberry is an adventure! These dogs are a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Border Collie, so you get the best of both worlds: the Bernese's gentle, loving nature and the Border Collie's intelligence and energy. My little Raspberry, even at 6 months, is a perfect example – super smart, always ready to play, and oh-so-cuddly. I've found that early socialization is key. Getting her used to different sights, sounds, and people (and even my cat siblings, though they're still figuring each other out!) has been so important. She loves going out for walks on her blue leash and getting compliments on her pink collar! Don't let their fluffy cuteness fool you; Bordernese puppies need a lot of mental and physical stimulation. They're quick learners, which is great for training, but it also means they can get bored easily. I spend time each day teaching Raspberry new tricks – beyond just smiling for pets! Puzzle toys and interactive games are lifesavers for keeping her busy indoors. Outdoors, she thrives on running and jumping. If you're thinking about a Bordernese dog, be prepared for an active companion who loves to be part of everything you do. They’re not really suited for a sedentary lifestyle. One thing many people wonder about is how Bordernese puppies grow into full grown dogs. They mature relatively quickly in size, usually reaching their adult height and weight around 12-18 months. However, their minds might still be very much puppy-like well into their second year! Expect them to be substantial dogs; males can weigh 60-90 pounds and females 45-75 pounds. They'll retain that beautiful fluffy coat, which does require regular grooming – a lesson I'm quickly learning with Raspberry! As they grow, their love for their family deepens, making them incredibly loyal and affectionate companions. While Raspberry is still in her 'biting' phase, I know she's growing into a wonderful, well-behaved 'lifelong friend'. Like any breed, Bordernese dogs can have certain health considerations, often inherited from their parent breeds. It's always a good idea to research reputable breeders who conduct health screenings. With proper care, nutrition, and exercise, a Bordernese can typically live for 10-14 years, bringing so much joy to your home.
