Replying to @jaiLynne here’s the tutorial 💋 #fyp #msu #tshirtdress #diy #gameday
Hey everyone! So many of you asked after my last post, and I'm so excited to finally share my super simple DIY tutorial for making a custom t-shirt dress, perfect for gameday! If you’re looking for a comfy, cute, and affordable way to show your team spirit, you’ve come to the right place. This isn't just about transforming a basic tee; it’s about making a statement with your own hands. Honestly, when I first started to make a t-shirt dress for gameday, I was a bit nervous. I saw a few ideas online and thought, "Can I really pull this off?" But trust me, it’s easier than you think! You don't need any sewing skills, just a pair of scissors and an oversized t-shirt (the bigger, the better, especially if you want more room for tying and shaping). Here’s how I did it, step-by-step, to get that flattering, fitted look: Grab Your Tee: Start with a large, preferably plain or team-logo t-shirt. I went with an XL men's tee for plenty of fabric to work with. Initial Cuts (Optional but Recommended): Lay your t-shirt flat. I usually start by cutting off the very bottom hem for a cleaner edge, but this isn't strictly necessary. You can also slightly trim the sleeves if you want a more cap-sleeve look. The Tying Magic Begins: This is where the real transformation happens! I started by deciding where I wanted the waist of my dress to be. This is crucial for getting that cinched effect. Then, I began cutting small slits, about 1-2 inches long and about an inch apart, along both sides of the shirt, starting from just below the armpit down to where you want the dress to end. Tying the Bottom First: As mentioned in my process, I tied the 2 bottom ones on each side first. This helps anchor the shape. Just take two corresponding strips (one from the front panel, one from the back panel) and tie them in a double knot. Try It On!: This is the most important step! Once those first few knots are done, I recommend you *put the dress on to tie the rest*. Seriously, trying it on as you go is key to getting the fit just right. You'll be able to see exactly where you need to cinch it more or let it out. Continue Cutting and Tying: From there, I just started cutting and tying the strips all the way up the sides *til I liked it*. It’s a very intuitive process. If you want it tighter, cut more strips closer together and tie them snugly. If you want a looser fit, space them out more. Don't be afraid to experiment! There was definitely an instant laugh because I thought I messed up the whole dress at one point, but I just kept adjusting, and it turned out great! Final Touches: Once all your side knots are done, you can trim any excess string for a neater look. You can also adjust the neckline by cutting a wider scoop or even a V-neck if you prefer. This DIY method gives you a truly unique simple shirt dress that’s comfortable and perfect for cheering on your team. Pair it with some cute sneakers, a baseball cap, and maybe a fanny pack, and you're all set for gameday. It's an amazing feeling to wear something you made yourself, and I promise you'll get tons of compliments. Give it a try, and let me know how yours turns out!
