Shanghai’s best xiaolongxia 红盔甲 🦞

Tried both the garlic flavoured crayfish and the mala crayfish and my favourite’s still the garlic flavoured one. The mala’s a bit too spicy and we choke from the spices from time to time 🥹 In fact the garlic is already slightly spicy. Also, it’s a must to add noodles as it soaks up all the garlicky umami, it’s so good!!!

One portion is good for 2 girls to share 😗 The staff will peel the shell for you if you eat at the store but ordering delivery allows the flavours to infuse so we much preferred to order in instead 😌 plus you can suck the crayfish without a care in the world hehe 🤤 #hongkuijia #xiaolongxia #shanghai #shanghaifood #shanghaifooddelivery

From my own experience, the mala crayfish is quite spicy and can be overwhelming at times, so if you prefer a milder yet flavorful option, the garlic-flavored crayfish is the way to go. It still packs a slight spicy kick but is much easier to enjoy without the intense heat. Hong Kuijia (红盔甲) is one of the standout places in Shanghai to indulge in xiaolongxia, and its growing popularity is well deserved.
