Where to feed chipmunks in Montana; Beartooth pass
The Beartooth pass is a highway that is between Red Lodge in Montana and the Yellowstone National Park north east entrance of Yellowstone National park in Wyoming. It is insanely beautiful and easily one of the most scenic drives I have taken. At one of the semis overlooks there is a nice cemented trail where at the end there are tons of chipmunks really use to people and they will come up to your hands and take snacks from you. If you’re ever in Montana and want to take a scenic drive and see wildlife this is definitely a great place to do so. #montana #summerbod #Lemon8Diary #wildlife #placestovisit #travel #nationalpark #yellowstone #photography #reccommendations
Beyond the adorable chipmunks, the Beartooth Highway itself is a journey you truly won't forget. I wanted to share a few more insights from my trip that might help you plan yours and make the most of this incredible route! Driving the Beartooth Highway, officially designated US-212, is an adventure in itself. The road is famous for its incredible switchbacks and hairpin turns as it climbs to elevations over 10,000 feet. You literally drive through different climate zones, starting in lush forests near Red Lodge and ending up in what feels like an alpine tundra with snow-capped peaks even in summer. The views are absolutely mind-blowing – towering mountains, vast mountain valleys, and pristine alpine lakes around every bend. Make sure to pull over at the numerous overlooks; each one offers a unique perspective of this majestic landscape. I remember seeing patches of snow right next to the road in July, which was wild and made for some stunning photography against the rocky terrain! When to go? The highway is typically open from late May/early June to mid-October, weather permitting. I highly recommend checking road conditions before you head out, especially early or late in the season, as snow can close parts of it unexpectedly. Pack layers, even in summer, as the weather changes rapidly at high altitudes. The mountain weather can shift from sunny to chilly and windy in minutes. A full tank of gas is a must, as services are very limited once you start climbing into the high country. And, of course, don't forget your camera – you'll want to capture every bit of this scenic wonderland, from the winding road snaking through valleys to the panoramic mountain views! While the friendly chipmunks are definitely a highlight, keep your eyes peeled for other wildlife too! I saw deer grazing in meadows and even a few mountain goats clinging to rocky ledges. Remember to observe all wildlife from a safe distance, and never feed anything other than the chipmunks in designated areas (if you choose to, with appropriate snacks like unsalted nuts). Maintaining a respectful distance helps keep both you and the animals safe. Whether you're heading to Yellowstone National Park or just doing a day trip from Red Lodge, the Beartooth Highway is more than just a route – it's a destination in itself. It’s truly one of America’s most spectacular drives, offering unparalleled views and unforgettable moments. Don't rush it; take your time, soak it all in, and make memories that will last a lifetime!

so cute!! though, please don’t feed wild animals, it’s bad for them and they will become aggressive and may be harmed by people!
