My 2023 Favorite Reads
The 5 Love Languages - this helped me so much with understanding not only the relationship I was in at that time but myself. I don’t think before this book I really even understood what my love language was. This has also just helped me with general relationships like friends, family, colleagues, humans 😂 lol. It’s a good way to learn about your needs, others needs and how those needs impact your relationships. 10/10 recommend
Looking For Alaska - this is actually my boyfriend’s favorite book and he convinced me to read it last summer in between waiting for new book orders to arrive lol. This was such a good read. It’s a YA novel about love, loss and just searching for your meaning in life. 9/10 recommend
The Alchemist - the alchemist is a book that had been on my list for awhile but I just never got around to it. This is a good “life” book. It’s primarily about the obstacles in life and learning valuable life lessons from them.
This book wasn’t bad by any means but for all the hype I wasn’t that “excited” in reading it. 6/10 recommend
The Four Agreements - an ancient book about wisdom and 4 agreements to help you navigate life. 9/10 recommend

Finding those 'must-read' books each year is such a personal journey, isn't it? For me, a book earns that title not just by being popular, but by genuinely shifting my perspective or teaching me something profound. It's about that feeling of putting a book down and knowing you're not quite the same person who picked it up. When I reflect on my 2023 reads, the ones that became my personal 'must-reads' were those that offered practical wisdom or deep emotional resonance. Take 'The 5 Love Languages,' for instance. Before reading it, I honestly didn't have a clear idea of what my own love language was, let alone how it impacted all my relationships—not just romantic ones, but with family, friends, and colleagues too! It's incredible how a book can give you a framework to understand human connection better. It truly opened my eyes to both my own needs and how others communicate theirs. That's a definite 'must-read' for anyone looking to improve their interactions. Then there are books that guide you through life's bigger questions, like 'The Alchemist.' While it might not have been a 10/10 for my personal excitement level, its core message about pursuing your personal legend and learning from life's obstacles is undeniably powerful. It's the kind of book that, once read, leaves you pondering your own journey and the signs along the way. Similarly, 'The Four Agreements' offers ancient wisdom in a simple, profound way, providing actionable principles for a more peaceful life. These are the kinds of books that, for me, serve as essential guides for navigating the ups and downs of existence. And let's not forget the emotional 'must-reads'—books that capture the raw essence of human experience. 'Looking for Alaska' was one of those for me. It dives into themes of first love, loss, and the search for meaning in a way that feels incredibly authentic, especially for younger adult readers. Sometimes, a 'must-read' isn't about learning a new skill, but about feeling deeply connected to a story and the characters' journeys, allowing you to process your own emotions or experiences through theirs. So, how do you find your next 'must-read'? I've found it helps to not just follow best-seller lists, but to think about what questions you're currently asking in your own life. Are you looking for self-improvement, escapism, or a deeper understanding of the world? Don't be afraid to explore different genres or pick up a book recommended by a friend whose taste you trust. Sometimes, the most impactful books are those you stumble upon unexpectedly, or even ones you've put off reading for years. The key is to be open to how a story or concept might resonate with you personally, making it an indispensable part of your reading journey.
