Day 5: a WFH kinda get ready with me!
You know those mornings when you're working from home and the thought of just rolling out of bed and straight to your laptop seems tempting? I totally get it! But after trying that a few times, I realized how much better my day goes when I actually get ready – even if it's just for my living room office. So, for my WFH days, I've developed a simple yet effective morning routine that really helps me feel refreshed and productive. It might not be a full glam GRWM, but it's enough to switch my brain into 'work mode.' My day usually kicks off around 7:30 AM. The first thing I do, even before checking my phone, is head straight to the kitchen for a big glass of water. Hydration is key, and it really helps wake up my body naturally. Sometimes, I'll add a slice of lemon for an extra boost. While I'm sipping my water, I'll do a quick stretch – just five minutes of gentle movement to get the blood flowing. It’s amazing how much difference a little stretch can make in shaking off that morning grogginess! Next up is a quick skincare routine. Nothing fancy, just a gentle cleanse, a hydrating serum, and a good moisturizer with SPF (even indoors, window light counts!). This step feels incredibly refreshing and sets a positive tone for the day. It’s a moment of self-care that tells my brain, 'Okay, we're starting fresh.' Then comes the 'getting dressed' part of my GRWM. This is where I make a conscious effort not to stay in my pajamas. I usually opt for comfortable yet presentable clothes – think stylish joggers, a nice top, or a comfy sweater. The goal isn't to look like I'm going to a client meeting, but to feel put-together enough that if I have a last-minute video call, I’m not scrambling. It really helps to mentally separate my 'sleep space' from my 'work space.' After I'm dressed, I'll quickly make my bed. It’s a small win to start the day and makes my bedroom feel tidier, which somehow translates to a tidier mind. Then, it's time for some brain fuel! I try to have a light but nutritious breakfast. Lately, it’s been overnight oats with berries or a smoothie. I enjoy this slowly, sometimes catching up on a podcast or just enjoying the quiet before the workday officially begins. Finally, before diving into emails, I spend about 10-15 minutes setting my intentions for the day. This could be jotting down my top three priorities, organizing my digital workspace, or just taking a few deep breaths. This mental preparation is crucial for a productive WFH morning routine. It helps me feel focused and ready to tackle whatever comes my way. This whole process might take about an hour, but it’s an investment in my well-being and productivity. I’ve found that having this structured 'get ready with me' ritual truly transforms my work-from-home experience, making each day feel more purposeful and less like I'm just drifting from my bed to my desk.
