Okay, so I just had to share more about my Ten Ichi Mart experience, especially after seeing how much you guys loved my initial haul post! A lot of you asked about the onigiri, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer. If you’re like me and always on the hunt for delicious, affordable Japanese food in NYC, especially in Queens, then this spot needs to be on your radar. First, let's talk about the onigiri. Ten Ichi Mart really shines here. They have a fantastic selection, usually displayed on a wooden shelf above their refrigerated section. I’ve tried a few different kinds, and they’re always perfectly seasoned and generously filled. Think classic salmon, tuna mayo, spicy cod roe – all those comforting flavors you crave. Each one is individually wrapped, making them super convenient for a quick snack or a light lunch. What I love is the quality for the price; it feels authentic, not mass-produced, and definitely beats shelling out double the price elsewhere. It's hard to find good quality onigiri that's also budget-friendly, but Ten Ichi Mart nails it. But Ten Ichi Mart is so much more than just a place for onigiri. My recent visit proved that you can get an incredible amount of food without breaking the bank. For that $40, I literally walked out with 6 various sushi rolls, an onigiri, a savory app (hello, 9/10 shrimp shumai!), and two refreshing drinks. It’s the kind of place where you can easily feed a small group or stock up for days. Here’s a pro-tip I learned: The store starts getting busy around 7:45 PM, and for good reason. They have an amazing 50% off deal on many items *after 8 PM*! Imagine getting those already affordable sushi rolls or bento boxes at half price. It’s chaotic but so worth it if you’re looking to maximize your savings. I’ve seen people line up, yellow shopping baskets in hand, just for this. If you go earlier, you get the full selection, which is also fantastic. They even have a variety of hot food items and poke bowls, which looked incredibly fresh and tempting. The bento-style meals are another great deal – perfect for a balanced, quick meal. The sushi rolls are consistently fresh and flavorful. I rated the salmon and tuna nigiri an 8/10, but the various sushi rolls, especially the spicy and California ones, were a solid 10/10 for their quality and price point. You can tell they take pride in what they prepare, even for grab-and-go. The interior, with its hanging red and white lanterns, adds to the authentic grocery store vibe, making the whole experience feel like a mini-trip to Japan without leaving NYC. So, whether you're specifically craving delicious onigiri, hunting for incredible sushi deals, or just need a quick, affordable, and high-quality Japanese meal in Queens, Ten Ichi Mart is the place to be. Trust me, your wallet and your taste buds will thank you!
