Books I’ve Read Recently 📖

This was my first time reading anything by Natasha Preston and I can’t decide how I feel about these books. I love a good murder mystery, but I noticed that both books have the same trope in them (SPOILER ALERT): killer couples. One book is own thing, but both of them? Idk it felt lazy. And apparently all of her books end on cliff hangs with no sequels?

I read “The Haunting” first solely because I thought it would be a ghost story based on the cover and was very disappointed on that front. I half predicted the ending/solved the mystery, which I didn’t like. Finishing this and realizing there was no resolution was INFURIATING. I had really liked the book until the end.

I read “The Island” directly after I finished the other book. I was more surprised by the ending of this book, and I enjoyed that I didn’t immediately guess the ending. I was more prepared for the cliff hanger ending this time, and I feel like this cliff hanger was done better somehow? It reminds me how some horror movies end on cliff hangers as a “just because they’re the main character doesn’t mean they’re safe” kind of way.

Either way I’d give both books like 3/5? Very average in my opinion, and I probably won’t read anything else by her anytime soon. 🥲😬

... Read moreIt's always a journey finding your next great read, isn't it? As someone who loves diving into a good book, especially thrillers and mysteries, I know the excitement (and sometimes disappointment!) that comes with it. My recent dive into Natasha Preston's "The Haunting" and "The Island" got me thinking a lot about what makes a novel truly captivating and what specific elements can make or break a reading experience. When I pick up a book, I’m often hoping for something that will completely immerse me, whether it’s a chilling mystery or a heartwarming romance. It's why I spend so much time sifting through recommendations and reviews, trying to find those 'good novels' that truly resonate. When you're searching for "good novels" or the "best Natasha Preston books," you often have certain expectations. For me, anticipating a gripping mystery, I was intrigued by the premises of both "The Haunting" and "The Island." However, discovering the recurring "killer couples" trope in both felt a little repetitive, even if it's a popular element in some thrillers. It made me reflect on how important originality is, even within established genres. Sometimes, what makes a book stand out is how it cleverly subverts expectations or offers a fresh spin on familiar themes. It's not always about finding a "cozy mystery series" that ties everything up neatly; sometimes, the thrill is in the unexpected and the feeling of being genuinely surprised. Another point that often comes up in book discussions, especially for authors like Natasha Preston, is the ending. Those cliffhangers! While "The Haunting" left me a bit frustrated without a clear resolution, "The Island" managed to deliver a cliffhanger that felt more deliberate and impactful. It's a fine line for authors to walk, between leaving readers wanting more and leaving them feeling unfulfilled. When you're looking for books, especially comparing notes on platforms like Goodreads for titles like "The Obsession Natasha Preston," it's these nuances that often shape our overall enjoyment. It really makes you think about whether you prefer a definitive ending or if you're okay with lingering questions, much like how some horror movies conclude. This is crucial when considering authors who have a specific style, as it helps you decide if their overall body of work, like the number of books Natasha Preston has, aligns with your reading preferences. My experience with these particular Natasha Preston books taught me a lot about managing expectations when exploring new authors or series. Sometimes, a book that isn't a perfect 5/5 still offers valuable insights into storytelling or introduces you to a new author's unique voice. When you consider the vast world of 'BOOKS I'VE READ RECENTLY,' each one contributes to your overall reading journey. For fellow 'bookworms' and readers exploring different 'novels,' my take on "The Island" and "The Haunting" highlights the importance of going in with an open mind, but also knowing what you generally enjoy. If you're into fast-paced thrillers with unexpected twists, Natasha Preston might be for you, but be prepared for her signature style, including those cliffhangers and recurring tropes. Remember to check out what others are saying – whether it's about "Project Hail Mary" or even a "kidlit" recommendation – as community insights can be incredibly valuable. What's your take on mystery books that leave you hanging? I'm always looking for recommendations for truly unique thrillers – perhaps something that breaks the mold or offers a completely different kind of suspense, or even a compelling "romance novel" with a twist!

🌹Raw (Belle Aurora) I’ll be honest, I couldn’t bring myself to finish this book - the characters felt too disjointed. However, I did spoil the ending for myself, and wish more dark romance authors followed suit. 🌹 Priest (Sierra Simone) Okay, buckle up. This is the ultimate forbidden romance:
