Having to vs. needing to/getting to rest.
With Narcolepsy, the hardest thing I've found is feeling sleepy. Sounds a but silly right? Well to others who may not know a great deal about the disorder it looks almost invisible to the eye. For some the symptoms of sleepiness may be severe, others may have little to none at all. Personally it's a day by day thing. I'm grateful for any moment I can rest and recoup for the day, or the rest of the day. It takes a toll when I feel as though I can't get out of bed due to the sleepiness. Added onto the diagnosis of narcolepsy I also have MDD. I urge everyone to allow the rest, and anything that rejuvinates you. And helps you to function (as long as it's healthy). Much love to everyone ❤️-H. Rose 🌹
Rest is often taken for granted, but for individuals dealing with narcolepsy and mental health issues like major depressive disorder (MDD), it becomes a crucial part of daily life. Narcolepsy, a neurological disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, can make the need for rest feel urgent yet elusive. People may visibly struggle with their condition, making it misunderstood by those around them. It's important to recognize that everyone’s experience is unique, and while one may feel capable of pushing through, others may find even simple tasks daunting due to the exhaustion that accompanies their conditions. The process of rest can be both rewarding and frustrating. Those living with narcolepsy often juggle feelings of guilt when needing to rest. They might think about what could be accomplished instead, leading to a cycle of stress and anxiety. This is where community support and awareness play key roles. Sharing experiences helps to normalize the conversation around rest, revealing that it is a necessary and rejuvenating act, not a weakness. Additionally, prioritizing rest can enhance overall productivity and mental clarity, redefining it as not merely needing to rest but valuing the gift of relaxation and recuperation. Allowing yourself to rest can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life, where health is at the forefront and community connection thrives.
