I had gotten this as an ARC and ALC from Netgalley. Thank you to RBmedia, SOURCEBOOKS Fire, and Netgalley for letting me receive an E-ARC and Audio.
I really liked this book so much! I loved the characters Elise Saint and Layla Quinn. Elise Saint is a human and Layla Quinn is a reaper(Vampire). I hated Tobias Saint, he is Elise’s father; with a whole ass passion. I don’t know how to feel about Sterling and Valeriya.
I did not like the fact that the vampires are called reapers but it is what it is.
I absolutely loved the narrator Tamika Keaton-Donegal. She did amazing with all of the characters. She brought all of them to life.
... Read moreSo, you're curious about *This Ravenous Fate*? I totally get it! After diving into this Advance Reader's Copy, I can definitely say it’s a strong contender for your next YA fantasy romance obsession. If you're into stories with compelling characters, a touch of the supernatural, and intricate world-building, this one by Hayley Dennings needs to be on your radar.
One of the biggest draws for me was the dynamic between Elise Saint, our human protagonist, and Layla Quinn, who's a reaper—yes, a distinct take on a vampire! Their relationship isn't just about forbidden romance; it's steeped in intrigue, power struggles, and the heavy weight of fate. I found myself completely invested in their journey, especially as they navigate a world where reapers hold significant sway and secrets lurk in every shadow. And let's just say, Elise's father, Tobias Saint, makes for a truly detestable antagonist, which always adds a good layer of tension and motivation to the plot!
While the book features reapers instead of traditional vampires, this unique twist adds a fresh take on classic mythological elements often seen in fantasy. It kept me guessing and thoroughly entertained, offering a refreshing perspective on immortal beings. The world-building, while not explicitly detailing Norse mythology as some queries might suggest, nonetheless feels rich and immersive, creating a dark, atmospheric setting that’s perfect for readers who crave a blend of romance and fantastical danger. The themes of destiny versus free will are really explored through the characters' choices, making you think long after you've finished the last page.
For those who enjoy audiobooks, I can't recommend the narration by Tamika Katon-Donegal enough. She truly brought the characters to life, making Elise, Layla, and even the villainous Tobias feel incredibly real and distinct. Her performance added so much depth to the story and made the listening experience absolutely fantastic. It's rare to find a narrator who perfectly captures the essence of every character, but she nailed it, enhancing the emotional impact of every scene.
