Rating system
should've posted this first but this is my rating system for every book I read
When it comes to assessing books, having a structured rating system can truly enhance the reading experience and help others discover what to expect. Beyond just passively reading, I’ve found that breaking down my opinions into distinct categories adds clarity and personal value. For example, using a star rating from DNF (did not finish) for books that didn’t hold my interest, to a 5-star rating when a book absolutely blew me away, helps keep my thoughts organized and honest. Additionally, the inclusion of a 'Spice Rating'—a scale measuring romantic or mature content from mild kissing scenes to explicit content—adds a dimension often overlooked in many general rating systems. This is especially useful when reading within genres like YA or romance where comfort levels and expectations greatly vary among readers. Applying these ratings consistently not only aids in reflecting honestly on what I’ve read but also helps recommend books to friends with similar tastes, whether they’re looking for light-hearted or more intense content. It’s also useful for quickly flipping back to previous reads and recalling why a book stood out or fell flat. If you’re a reader who likes to keep detailed notes or share your thoughts through blogs or reviews, developing your own rating system inspired by this approach can make your feedback more comprehensive and useful to others. It’s all about combining enjoyment, content awareness, and personal preference into a cohesive framework that respects your reading journey.
