move all my books into my new dorm

hi besties! it’s that time of year again…dorm move in time 🤭

📚I packed up all my babies and I was SO nervy they’d get damaged or something bad would happen but they ended up being safe lol. I’ve done this method for two years so I have the method down pat. I just put the books in a bubble mailer with bubble wrap and put them in a heavy duty bin.

📚thank god my dorm isn’t actually to bad this year and I had space to put my babies, and I actually still had a good amount of room. And I didn’t take all of my books because you can’t fit 879 books in a shoebox LOL. But I did purposely leave room for when I get new books this year!!

📚I’m so happy with how everything turned out, and it looks so aesthetic and cutie!!

... Read moreOkay, besties! Moving into a dorm is chaotic enough, but getting all your precious books there safely? That's a whole other level of stress! I was super nervous about my 'BOOK MOVE,' fearing my babies would get damaged. Thankfully, my method worked perfectly, and they 'arrived safely' at my dorm. Here are some expanded tips and 'dorm room decorating ideas' I've learned to make your move-in and bookshelf setup a breeze. Packing & Moving Your Books Like a Pro My go-to method involves bubble mailers, bubble wrap, and heavy-duty bins – it’s a lifesaver! But here are a few extra 'book moves' hacks to ensure everything arrives just fine: Label Everything Clearly: This might seem obvious, but label your bins with big, bold letters: “BOOKS - FRAGILE!” and which room they're going to. This helps movers (or your parents!) know exactly where to put them and to handle them with care. Don't Overpack: Books are deceptively heavy. Resist the urge to cram a bin full! Filling them only halfway or less makes them much easier to carry and prevents the bottom from falling out or the bin from cracking. Trust me, your back will thank you. Utilize Suitcases for Special Editions: For some of my lighter paperbacks or 'special editions' (like my cherished 'Off Campus Series'), I actually layered them carefully in my suitcase, nestled between clothes. It adds an extra layer of padding and frees up a bin for other items. Dorm Room Bookshelf Decorating & Organizing Ideas Once your books are safely in your dorm, the real fun begins: making your 'bookshelf' look amazing! I aimed for 'neatly arranged books' that also contributed to my room's aesthetic. Here's 'how to decorate my book' shelves and create a cozy reading nook: Mix It Up with Stacking: Don't just line all your books up vertically. Try stacking a few horizontally! For those wondering, 'is it bad to stack books horizontally?' — generally, it's fine and can even be a clever way to create visual interest or a small pedestal for a tiny plant or a cute trinket. I usually stack 2-3 books horizontally to break up the rows. Creative Grouping: Instead of just alphabetical, try grouping books by color for a vibrant display, or by genre. I love seeing all my 'favorite books' together, and yes, even my spicy reads like 'Endless Anger' get their own designated spot! This helps with 'creative ways to organize books' and makes your shelf look curated. Add Personal Touches: Your bookshelf isn't just for books! Incorporate small plants, decorative bookends, string lights, candles (if allowed!), or small pieces of art. These elements transform a simple shelf into a personalized statement piece, making your dorm feel more like home. Create a Cozy Nook: Even in a small dorm, you can make your book area an inviting spot. Mine is next to my bed with my 'other bookshelf.' A soft rug, a comfy pillow, and a clip-on reading light can turn a corner into your personal escape. Remember, I purposely 'left some room so I could add more books' throughout the year, so don't feel pressured to fill every single space right away! More Dorm Room Hacks for Book Lovers Beyond just the shelves, these 'dorm room hacks' can help you maximize your space as a bookworm: Under-Bed Storage: If your collection is extensive, clear, shallow under-bed storage containers are a godsend. They keep dust off your books and utilize often-wasted space. Floating Shelves: If your dorm allows, a few floating shelves above your desk or bed can add extra display space for your most aesthetic reads or 'special editions' without taking up precious floor space. Digital Backups for Textbooks: For textbooks or rarely read series, consider digital versions when possible. This significantly reduces the physical load and saves valuable shelf space for your pleasure reads. Setting up my books was one of the most satisfying parts of moving in. It instantly made my dorm feel like home and a place where I could truly relax. I hope these 'dorm arrangement' tips help you create your own perfect book haven!
