A Book Worth Collecting
Deathbringer by Sonia Tagliareni rocked me to my core! On the surface it comes across as simply a girl, Viola, who doesn’t want her magical powers to hear the dead, doesn’t want to attend the academy where all other mages attend, and wants to just live as a nonmage with her dear sister.
However, as you get deeper into the story and the world Tagliareni built, you realize that you’ve been tossed into a murder mystery, and Viola was always meant to be at the center of this magical world she fought so hard to not be part of.
The evil that lurks in the shadows is far worse than Viola and her ragtag group of newfound friends.
The dark academia, the mystery, and a slow burn that leaves you yearning for even more 🤌🤌🤌
I am so obsessed that not only did I get the US deluxe edition, I also snagged the UK edition, and the Fairyloot edition. As a surprise, Sonia and her wonderful team gifted me the advance reader copy ðŸ˜
All this to say, I HIGHLY recommend Deathbringer especially if you love dark academia, mystery, found family, magic, and slow burn.

Reading Deathbringer truly felt like diving into a wonderfully intricate world where every detail mattered. I especially appreciated how the story’s magical elements were intertwined with a gripping murder mystery, keeping me guessing until the very end. Viola’s struggle to reject her powers and yet inevitably become a pivotal figure reminded me of how reluctant heroes often make the best protagonists. The atmosphere of dark academia added a beautifully moody backdrop, with the academy itself feeling like both a haven and a prison. One thing that stood out to me was the sense of found family that developed among Viola and her companions. Their dynamics brought warmth amid the darker tones of the story. The pacing was deliberate, allowing relationships and plot threads to develop naturally, which made the slow burn romance deeply satisfying. I found the advance reader copy notes, visible in the images, added an exclusive feel to my reading experience, as if I was part of a select group witnessing the early stages of a soon-to-be-beloved series. The book’s richly crafted world and "deliciously atmospheric" scenes, as some reviewers described, make it an unforgettable journey. For anyone who enjoys a blend of magic, mystery, and emotional depth, Deathbringer is definitely a book worth collecting and cherishing.
