A faithful servant

When I first read Matthew 24:46, about the blessing of a faithful and wise servant, it really resonated with me. But then, delving deeper into the Scriptures, especially the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25, truly changed my perspective on what it means to be a 'faithful servant.' It’s more than just being good; it’s about active stewardship. The parable tells us about a master who, before going on a long journey, entrusted his property to three servants. To one, he gave five talents; to another, two talents; and to the third, one talent. Each was given according to their ability. What struck me from the OCR was the phrase 'faithful in handling' – which describes how the diligent servants managed what they were given. The snippets like 'invest, and I have earn' and 'you gave me two ba' (talents) really bring this story to life. The first two servants immediately went and invested what they were given, doubling their master's money. They were proactive, they took risks, and they worked diligently. When the master returned, he praised them with those beautiful words: 'Well done, my good and faithful servant! You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you more responsibilities. Come and share your master’s happiness.' This is the ultimate commendation we all hope for. This parable isn't just about money; it's a powerful illustration of 'God's calling' and how we 'discover our purpose.' We've all been given 'talents' – whether they are skills, resources, time, or opportunities. The question is, what are we doing with them? Are we actively 'investing' them, growing them, and using them for His kingdom? Or are we, like the third servant who buried his one talent out of fear, letting our potential lie dormant? For me, this has sparked a journey of re-evaluating my own gifts and asking, 'How can I be more faithful in handling what God has entrusted to me?' It's about moving beyond just existing and truly living out a purposeful 'Christian living.' Being a faithful servant in everyday life means recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God. It means taking responsibility for our actions, using our time wisely, and developing our abilities not for our own glory, but to honor Him. It means serving others, being a good steward of our finances, and nurturing our spiritual growth. I’ve learned that discovering your purpose often isn't a grand, sudden revelation, but rather a gradual unfolding as you faithfully use the talents you already possess. As you invest them, you discover more of what you're capable of and where God wants to use you. And speaking of serving, there's another Scripture, Matthew 6:3-4, that whispers about giving in secret, not letting your left hand know what your right hand is doing. This has taught me that true faithfulness isn't always about public recognition or seeking praise from others. Sometimes, the most profound acts of service are done quietly, humbly, and without fanfare. It’s about serving an audience of One. It reminds me that being 'faithful in handling' doesn't mean boasting about achievements, but rather diligently working behind the scenes, trusting that our Master sees and will say, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant' when the time is right. It’s a humbling yet incredibly freeing way to approach life, knowing that our true reward comes from Him.
