Rich Dad said own assets

2025/7/10 Edited to

... Read moreReading 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' wasn't just another book for me; it was a complete paradigm shift, especially after seeing those powerful pages. One of the most profound lessons that literally jumped off the page was the distinction between how the poor and middle class work for money, while the rich have money work for them. Before, I just thought 'working hard' was the only answer. But seeing it laid out like that made me realize that merely trading time for a paycheck is a trap if you don't use that money to acquire income-generating assets. It’s about building a system where your money generates more money, freeing you from the constant grind. This led directly to the critical understanding of assets versus liabilities. The book's definition is so simple yet so powerful: an asset is something that puts money in your pocket, and a liability is something that takes money out of your pocket. This totally changed how I look at my purchases! For instance, my car, while necessary, is generally a liability because it costs me money through fuel, insurance, and maintenance. On the other hand, a small investment in a dividend-paying stock or even a side hustle that generates passive income could be an asset. The OCR even highlighted how an asset is defined by numbers, emphasizing the importance of truly understanding your financial statements to see what those numbers are telling you about your financial health. It’s not just about looking rich, it’s about being rich by what your numbers show. Another gem from those pages was the concept of 'mind your own business.' Initially, I thought it meant being an entrepreneur, which is true, but it goes deeper. It's about focusing your energy and resources on building your own asset column, rather than just building someone else's. My job helps pay the bills, yes, but my 'business' is what I do with that money to create financial freedom for myself. This perspective made me look at my time differently, prioritizing learning about investments and opportunities that build my personal financial empire. The book even showed the contrasting financial flow for 'The Rich with Corporations' versus 'People Who Work For Corporations,' illustrating how different structures handle earning, spending, and taxes. It really made me question: 'Where is this daily activity taking you?' and 'What does the future hold?' These aren't just abstract ideas; they're actionable insights. I’ve started tracking my expenses more diligently, identifying true assets versus liabilities in my own life, and actively looking for ways to make my money work harder for me. It's a journey, not a destination, but thanks to these pages, I feel like I finally have a map. If you're looking to break your own financial cycles and rewrite your money story, diving into these foundational principles is an absolute must.
