Dear Vicky chills me to the core

Dead Vicky by Octavia Grant was the beginning of my dive into her books. The character Andrew solidified Octavia the Queen of Unhinged for me and she ain't missed yet.

I'm still clutching my pearls, my panties and locking my windows and doors. This book is the reason why I pack in a grocery store and don't speak to no one. 😂

... Read moreAs someone who frequently loses myself in psychological thrillers, I can attest to the profound effect Octavia Grant’s writing has on her readers. Dear Vicky is one of those rare books that doesn’t just entertain but also lingers long after the last page is turned. The character of Andrew, in particular, is masterfully crafted to evoke a deep sense of unease and fascination simultaneously—which is a hallmark of Grant's storytelling prowess. What struck me about the book is how it amplifies the everyday anxieties through its suspenseful narrative. After diving into Dear Vicky, I found myself more aware of my surroundings, a feeling so intense that I began locking windows and doors with extra care—the author’s ability to translate psychological tension into real-world caution is remarkable. Additionally, the way Grant builds the atmosphere makes mundane activities, like grocery shopping, feel like scenes charged with potential danger, which adds to the psychological grip. This book isn’t just a story; it’s an experience that rewires your perception of safety and trust. For anyone new to Octavia Grant, starting with Dear Vicky offers a compelling glimpse into her darker, unhinged storytelling style. This book motivated me to explore more of her work because it perfectly balances character complexity and chilling plotlines. Whether you’re a thriller enthusiast or looking to dip your toes into psychological suspense, Dear Vicky guarantees a gripping, heart-pounding read that stays with you long after.
