The unfortunate side effects of heartbreak and mag
The story follows twins who were born into a family with magic. Each of them has their own unique magical ability, along with a curse that will follow them as they grow up. When their grandmother passes away, there is no one left to protect them from the dark, reverse magic that threatens to take one of them from this world because they were never supposed to exist. So, they must find a way to reverse the curse, or one of them will have to die.

Personally, I think this book may not match my vibe at the moment, as it feels more like a jack of all trades, master of none. It touches on magic, then shifts to a love story, then to life problems and a curse. The beauty and allure of the magic in this story flows along nicely, but it could have been something more, especially given that it already has strong material to work with.

However, if we look past everything and focus on what the book is truly trying to tell us, in themes of overcoming and letting go. I think it does its part in helping readers understand and see the world more clearly. The main character, Sadie, believes that magic is everything in her life and is terrified of losing it, as if without it, her life would be meaningless.

On the other hand, her brother Jake left his hometown because he despises magic. It makes him feel like he does not belong to his family. Yet, he has to accept the fact that he can never truly run away from magic, because it has always been a part of who he is.

If we focus on the themes of self-acceptance, self-discovery, and self-sacrifice, I think the book tries its best to convey these ideas. It can be compared to things that happen in real life for example, sometimes we have to let something go in order to move forward. Sadie, for instance, is willing to sacrifice her magic for her twin brother.

One thing that genuinely delighted me about this book is that it includes recipes for sweets and drinks that are said to help you in whatever way you need. It honestly made me want to start baking.

Finally, although this book may not have fully drawn me in, I do not dislike the story. Perhaps when I am 27 or 28, like the main characters, I will understand things better for both about myself and about love.
