Exploring Inland Siargao, PH: Things To Know 🌴

What's so great about Siargao is you don't have to be *just* a surfer or a beach bum to enjoy it because it has so much to offer for travelers with different interests. If it's your first time I highly recommend doing a land tour to get to see Siargao's inland attractions.

Siargao Land Tour

Things to Know

🥥 You'll see vast coconut groves, can canoe through a river, swim in tide pools, and explore a lagoon.

🥥 There are several ways to do this: arrange a tour with your hotel (especially for larger groups), hire a tricycle for the day, or rent a motorbike to self-tour.

🥥 You don't really need to prebook this tour as most tricycles you find on the street are available for full-day rentals.

🥥 For our group of 4, we were a bit last minute so we ended up hiring a tricycle who agreed to do a half day tour for Php 1200 or $21. Usually the prices can go up to Php 2000 / $36 for a full day excursion which is still not bad! The tricycle we ended up getting was a bit "old style" so we were actually very uncomfortable (it also had a hard time with ascents along the road) so if you're doing this route, I recommend taking the e-tricycles which will cost the same.

🥥 If you're just two people, then you'll save a lot more by renting a motorbike for the day - provided that you're comfortable with this mode of transport. Rentals average at about Php 500/day.

🥥 For our stops, we only did: Coconut Trees View Deck & Maasin Bridge River Swing so I highly recommend setting aside an entire day for this to enjoy the other spots.

... Read moreBeyond the Land Tour: Navigating Siargao with Tricycles – More Tips & What I Learned! My Siargao adventure wouldn't have been complete without experiencing the iconic tricycle transport. While my article covers our land tour, I wanted to share more about using tricycles around the island, especially since "Siargao tricycle transport" is a common search! Hiring a Tricycle for Shorter Trips & Daily Commutes: Beyond the full-day land tours, tricycles are your go-to for getting around Siargao's main areas like General Luna, Cloud 9, and nearby resorts. You'll see them everywhere! Don't be shy about flagging one down. For shorter distances, expect to pay anywhere from 20-50 PHP per person, depending on the distance and how many are sharing. Always confirm the price before you hop in to avoid surprises. Sometimes, drivers might try to charge tourists a bit more, so a friendly negotiation can help. Asking a local or your hotel staff for typical rates to common destinations can be really useful. Choosing Your Tricycle: Comfort is Key! As I mentioned in my main post, we ended up with an "older style" blue tricycle for our land tour, and honestly, it was a bit uncomfortable, especially on uphill climbs. If you have the choice, definitely opt for the newer e-tricycles. They're generally more spacious, smoother, and much more comfortable for longer journeys or if you're carrying a bit more gear. They might look a bit different, but they're worth seeking out, and often the price is the same! Look for ones that seem well-maintained. What to Expect During Your Ride: Siargao's tricycles are open-air, which is fantastic for taking in the island views, especially through those vast coconut groves. However, be prepared for dust on unpaved roads and the occasional bumpy ride. It's all part of the authentic Siargao experience! If it's sunny, consider wearing a hat or sunglasses. If it looks like rain, some tricycles have covers, but it's always good to be prepared with a light jacket. Tricycle vs. Motorbike: Which is Right for You? My article briefly touched on motorbikes, but here's a deeper dive. Tricycle: Ideal for groups (3-4 people comfortably, sometimes more for short distances), those who prefer not to drive themselves, or if you have luggage. It's a more relaxed way to see the island. Perfect for families or friends traveling together. Motorbike: Best for solo travelers or couples who are confident riders. At around 500 PHP/day, it offers the most flexibility and is often cheaper for two people than hiring a tricycle for constant trips. You can stop anywhere, anytime. However, if you're not experienced with motorbikes, especially on potentially dusty or gravelly roads, a tricycle is a much safer bet. Exploring Beyond the Shoreline: Using a tricycle is truly the best way to immerse yourself in inland Siargao. Imagine cruising past endless palm trees, feeling the breeze, and then arriving at spots like the Maasin River Swing for a refreshing dip. It’s not just about the destination; the journey itself becomes a memorable part of your trip when you're in a tricycle, connecting with the island life. Don't hesitate to ask your driver for recommendations too; they often know the best local spots! I hope these extra tips help you navigate Siargao like a pro using its most iconic mode of transport! Enjoy your island exploration!
