My best friend Lindsey & I love to make Oreo Balls/truffles. We made these Grinch inspired ones by funmoneymom.com last year and they turned out SO cute and #delicious
It can be a little hard to find the Red Velvet Oreos - but otherwise it’s a simple recipe!
INGREDIENTS
▢ 24.4 ounces Red Velvet Oreos 2 packages (44 cookies)
▢ 8 ounces cream cheese softened to room temperature
▢ 15 ounces light green candy melts
▢ Red heart sprinkles
INSTRUCTIONS
-Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
-Using a food processor or blender, pulse the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs.
(24.4 ounces Red Velvet Oreos)
-In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer on high speed until smooth.
(8 ounces cream cheese)
-Add the Oreo crumbs to the cream cheese. Mix together until well combined.
-Use a 1.5” cookie scoop to make even sized balls, then roll each ball in the palms or your hands until smooth. Place onto the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for 2 hours.
-Set aside ½-¾ cup of the light green candy melt pieces to use later for drizzling. Prepare a double boiler over low heat and melt the remaining light green wafers until smooth, stirring often. (You can also melt them in the microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between each interval).
(15 ounces light green candy melts)
-Use a fork to dip a ball into the coating. Remove the ball from the melted chocolate, tapping the fork on the edge of the double boiler to remove any excess chocolate.
-Place the ball onto the prepared baking tray and repeat with the remaining balls.
-Place ½ cup of the reserved candy melts into a microwave safe piping bag, twist it shut, and microwave it on a low setting until fully melted and smooth. Massage the bag every 2 minutes to ensure that the candy is melting evenly.
-Snip a small piece of the tip off the piping bag and drizzle the coating over the balls, four at a time. -Before the drizzle sets, top with a red heart.
Red heart sprinkles
-Allow the coating to set completely before serving. You can also place them in the refrigerator if you want them to harden a little faster. Enjoy!
After making those adorable Grinch Oreo Truffles with Red Velvet Oreos, I just had to share more about why I absolutely adore Oreo truffles! They are honestly one of the simplest, most versatile, and crowd-pleasing desserts you can whip up, especially for any cozy gathering. While our Grinch ones, with their festive light green drizzle and cute red heart sprinkles, were a huge hit, the beauty of Oreo truffles is how easily you can customize them. Think of them as a blank canvas for your dessert creativity! First off, let's talk about the 'strains' or varieties you can explore beyond the Grinch. If you can't find Red Velvet Oreos, or just want to try something different, regular Oreos work perfectly for a classic chocolatey truffle. You can also experiment with other Oreo flavors! Imagine using Mint Oreos for a refreshing twist, especially around Christmas – just coat them in dark chocolate or white chocolate with a hint of green food coloring for a subtle minty vibe. There are also Golden Oreos for a vanilla-flavored truffle, or even Peanut Butter Oreos if you're a fan of that classic combo. A friend of mine even adds a spoonful of peanut butter directly to the cream cheese mixture for an extra rich flavor in her basic Oreo truffles, and they are divine! The possibilities truly feel endless, making them perfect for any season or celebration. Now, for some practical tips I've learned along the way to make your Oreo truffles absolutely perfect every time. Getting your cookie crumbs super fine is key – a food processor is your best friend here. You want a powdery consistency so they mix smoothly with the cream cheese. Speaking of cream cheese, make sure it’s softened to room temperature. This helps it blend seamlessly with the crumbs without lumps. If it’s too cold, your mixture will be crumbly; too warm, and it might be too sticky. Chilling is arguably the most crucial step! Don't rush it. Those two hours in the fridge for the balls to firm up are essential. It makes them much easier to handle and dip without falling apart. For dipping, I find using a fork works best to get an even coating and tap off any excess chocolate. If your candy melts start to thicken, a little bit of coconut oil can help thin them out again for a smooth finish. And for those adorable drizzles, like the light green one we used for the Grinch truffles, a piping bag with a tiny snip at the end gives you great control. You can also get creative with your sprinkles! While red hearts are perfect for the Grinch, consider gold stars for New Year's, spooky eye sprinkles for Halloween, or even just a simple dusting of cocoa powder for an elegant touch. These "cozy desserts" are all about making them your own! Finally, serving and storage. Oreo truffles are fantastic for parties because they’re bite-sized and can be made ahead. Arrange them on a nice platter, maybe with some other small treats, and watch them disappear! They also make wonderful homemade gifts during the holidays. Just pop them into a cute box with some parchment paper between layers. They store beautifully in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or you can even freeze them for a month or two. Just let them thaw slightly before serving. Trust me, once you master the basic Oreo truffle, you'll be experimenting with all sorts of delicious 'strains' in no time!

Holiday treat idea!
