6 apps I’m taking to 2026 and 2 I’m leaving behind

My phone is cluttered with apps. Some I use everyday and others just never got deleted. With a week left of 2025, I decided it was time to take a look.

Apps I am keeping:

Finch: This is a self care/task app that I absolutely love. I’m on a 1,000+ day streak. It allows me to gather all my tasks I want to do so that I can gain rainbow stones to take care of a little pet bird. This app has helped me so much with organizing my day.

MyFitnessPal: Highly recommend for any weight loss journey. I’m down 18 lbs since May and a lot of credit goes to this app for having so many ways to track food intake, exercise, and goals.

My Reading Journey: I just found this app on TikTok a month or so ago. It is a very small dev team who wanted to make a reading app that didn’t have social aspects. I LOVE THIS APP. You can enter reading logs with pictures, emojis, and notes and when you log it, it puts it on a graphic showing your reactions as you read.

Nintendo Music: I love listening to Zelda and Mario music as I walk and read. This app is good for that. It does require a Nintendo Membership to use though.

Bluesky: While I have not been very active here, I do plan to be going into the new year. An alternative to Twitter (I will never call it X), it functions mostly the same.

Good Notes: I have gone fully digital for my journal this coming year and it is all in good notes. All of my reading tracking, habit tracking are ready to be filled in.

Now the 2 apps I’m leaving behind.

Threads: Zuckerberg tried to make Fetch happen but it didn’t. This app just doesn’t do it for me the way Bluesky does and I don’t need 2 of them so out Threads goes.

Fable: I was excited for this one but the social aspect of it is just too much. I’m bombarded by reviews of books I’ve said I want to read and I’m not reading the cool trendy books too often. I’m much more exited for Reading Journey and StoryGraph working in tandem.

What apps are being for 2026 and what ones are you offloading? Happy New Year!#appsthatyouneed #lifestyleapps #new

2025/12/28 Edited to

... Read moreAs someone who constantly experiments with mobile apps to optimize daily productivity and personal growth, I found this yearly review incredibly relatable. Finch, with its gamified task tracking and the charming reward system involving a virtual pet bird, truly transforms mundane to-dos into an engaging routine. Maintaining a 1,000+ day streak is no small feat and speaks volumes about its motivational design. MyFitnessPal's comprehensive food and exercise logging features have helped many, including myself, stay accountable during weight loss journeys. The app’s extensive food database and goal tracking make calorie counting straightforward and sustainable. It’s rewarding to see progress quantified so precisely over months. Discovery of My Reading Journey via TikTok resonates with those seeking distraction-free reading logs without social noise. Logging book reactions visually with emojis and photos adds a personal touch that encourages consistent reading habits—a technique I’ve tried with great success to enhance my engagement with books. Nintendo Music’s focus on classic video game soundtracks like Zelda and Mario adds nostalgia and motivation when walking or reading, although it’s good to be aware of the Nintendo Membership requirement for access. While Bluesky is comparable to Twitter alternatives, switching from Threads seems wise given redundant features and overwhelming social inputs. Choosing apps that reduce noise rather than add it aligns with intentional digital minimalism, which I have found improves focus and well-being. GoodNotes as a fully digital journaling tool is a game changer for habit and reading tracking. Digitizing these activities streamlines future referencing and amplifies organizational clarity. Leaving behind apps like Threads and Fable highlights the importance of assessing an app’s social environment and relevancy to one’s habits. Overload from social features and irrelevant content can quickly turn an app from helpful to hindrance. For those evaluating their own app collections as the new year approaches, it’s worthwhile to consider not only functionality but also how each app fits into your lifestyle goals and mental clarity. This reflection often leads to a leaner, more efficient phone—and a happier, more productive user experience.

Social media can be a good thing but recently, I’ve just been bombarded so much anxiety surrounding it. I looked through my screen time and on the app I noticed I was wasting either a lot of time on or was using as a filler when I could’ve been doing other things. So here’s a list of all the apps.
