Unpopular opinion… let’s chat

Hear me out

I’ve been struggling with getting up in the morning since I could remember. And I always hated it. I can’t tell you how many times I made the decision to finally force myself to become a morning person, to ‘fix my schedule’ hoping if I get up early one day I’ll get tired early and stick to a schedule. It’s never worked. My body seems to have a mind of its own, and it naturally sticks to a schedule that’s later than some people.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the days when I do have an early morning. I’d love to be a morning person if it’s how my body functions. The early morning feeling of fresh coffee, quiet planning, breezy walks, extra leisurely time for self development and productivity…

What makes me finally decide to ‘give in’ is this: on days I inevitably slept in, especially the days when I decided to get up early but failed, I always couldn’t help but felt like my whole day was ruined. When my morning plan fell apart, there didn’t seem to be enough hours in a day to do what I wanted, and I could only rush to get things done and be frustrated.

Until i realized in my silly little head that there are always 24 hours in a day no matter how you use them. So why do I feel things could only be done in the morning? To push the argument even further, aren’t the hours of the day arbitrary numbers we assign to the concept of the passing of time to give it structure, and if we follow things like daylight saving, what’s stopping me from making my own arbitrary decisions on how I’d like to spend my hours?

I guess the moral of the story is this: it doesn’t matter what time you get up, you can have a morning routine and be productive for the rest of the day if you really want to. The hours are there for me to use, and how I use them is up to me. This is definitely easier said than done, since my stubborn planner personality likes ‘real’ mornings and sticking to plans, but I know in life plans change and time passes, and I’m learning to be okay with starting late, changing plans, picking up where I am, and making the most of every day no matter what.

I do hope that at least one of you out there have the same struggles and relate to this. I wanna hear what you think! Drop a comment 💬🍋

... Read moreMany people believe that being a ‘morning person’ is key to success, but the reality is that productivity can be achieved at any time of day. Adapting your routine to suit your natural rhythms could lead to a healthier mindset. Studies have shown that personal productivity peaks can vary significantly from person to person, influenced by genetics, sleep patterns, and lifestyle. If you find yourself dreading early mornings or feeling guilty for not waking up before sunrise, take heart. Understanding your own body clock and when you feel most alert can help design a schedule that embraces your individuality rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all approach. Consider introducing habits that align with your natural morning behaviors instead. Whether it’s reading motivational texts, enjoying a slow-paced cup of coffee, or engaging in light exercise later in the day, discover what energizes you. Mindfulness practices can be beneficial too—emphasizing gratitude for the time you have instead of feeling pressured by societal expectations can enhance daily productivity. Additionally, remember that peak productivity isn’t solely tied to morning routines. It’s about finding what works best for you.
