Before You Fast in January, Prepare Your Heart

As the year comes to a close, many believers are preparing to fast starting January 1st.

Fasting is powerful — but it’s also something we shouldn’t rush into without understanding what we’re stepping into.

Over the years, I’ve used prayer journals. I’ve benefited from them.

But when it came to fasting, I realized something was missing.

I needed intentional preparation, not just a place to write prayers.

That’s why I created this fasting journal — first for myself.

Here’s what I’ve learned about fasting that shaped these pages:

• Fasting is not a way to manipulate God into giving us what we want

• Fasting is about surrender, not outcomes

• Preparation of the heart matters more than intensity

• Intention keeps fasting rooted in obedience, not pressure

• Writing helps us discern, remember, and renew our minds

• Fasting reveals what’s been shaping our thoughts and habits

• This isn’t a moment — it’s a posture and a way of life

I couldn’t find a journal that helped walk through these realities in a structured, faith-centered way — so I created one with prompts that guide reflection, prayer, and intention before and during a fast.

I’m currently praying about whether this is something I should offer beyond my own journey.

If this resonates with you — especially as you prepare for fasting in the new year — feel free to comment JOURNAL 🤍#fastingandprayer #faithwalk #newyear #prayerjournal #fastingforgod
