De-influencing you (money-wise)

You keep scrolling and seeing people upgrade their homes, fly business class, buy designer bags, eat at expensive restaurants, and somehow still have money left to invest.

After a while, it starts to feel like this is just what normal life looks like.

Here's the reality the internet can make you forget: most people are not casually spending like this all the time.

Normal is checking the price before you buy something.

Normal is saving up for a holiday, wearing the same clothes for years, taking public transport, cooking at home, and deciding that some things simply aren't worth the money.

You don't have to keep upgrading your lifestyle just because your feed makes everyone else's life look upgraded.

Spending less, wanting less, and living below your means isn't falling behind. It's often exactly how you get ahead.

Send this to someone whose feed has been making them question whether their perfectly normal life is enough.

Save it for the next time the internet makes you feel broke for not spending like everyone else. And follow for more reminders that looking wealthy and building wealth are two very different things.

... Read moreScrolling through social media can easily create a distorted picture of what "normal" spending looks like. Many people believe that upgrading homes, flying business class, or buying designer goods is the standard when, in reality, these are luxuries, not necessities. In my own journey towards financial independence, I realized early on that living below my means was key. I consciously chose to forgo expensive habits like daily café lunches, costly gym memberships, or frequent international trips. Instead, I focused on budgeting carefully, cooking at home, and saving for meaningful experiences rather than fleeting luxury. It’s important to redefine what "normal" means for you instead of comparing yourself to curated online images. For example, putting a wedding on a credit card or spending excessively on temporary indulgences is not normal—it can create financial stress for years. Similarly, just because others seem to afford expensive lifestyles doesn’t mean you have to match them or that your simpler choices are inadequate. The concept of "money de-influencing" is powerful—it encourages questioning social media pressures and making intentional financial decisions aligned with your values. This means prioritizing needs over wants, evaluating each expense’s true value, and recognizing that the real flex is having enough without debt. Most importantly, living mindfully allows you to fuel what truly matters—investing in your future, building wealth, and gaining financial freedom rather than chasing status symbols. Embracing modest spending habits doesn’t mean you’re falling behind; often, it’s the smartest path forward. For anyone feeling pressured by online expectations, remember: your financial health and peace of mind trump temporary appearances. Creating a sustainable lifestyle on your own terms is the foundation for long-term happiness and success.

A foundation book in feminism
I didn’t expect A Room of One’s Own to feel so relevant, even now. Virginia Woolf wrote this nearly a century ago, but her words still carry the quiet force of a truth we’re still learning to live out. At its core, this is more than a feminist essay—it’s a call for space. Space to think. To cr
